Hello,
I am not native English speaker, so i am confused about choosing a domain name with the word 'howto'.

I want to register a domain name including howto with the main keyword.
which one would be better
howto+keyword
or
keyword+howto

for example - HowToHosting or HostingHowTo ?
which one has better impact ?
( all major combination are registered for the main keyword, so i want to add howto )

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
GoDaddyGoDaddy
HowtoHosting suggests the name of a business called How To Hosting. So for your example HostingHowTo would be the better choice.

Thank you for the quick reply mhdoc.
the hosting is just for example only. basically i want to make people understand about something - about a particular term.
some more examples can be
howtoWordpress or WordpressHowTo
howtoDogTraining or DogTrainingHowto

like dog training, my keyword is made of two words.
and in the second example i think DogTrainingHowTo sounds better
isn't it ?

After 'how to' you add a verb, such as how to drive…, how to learn…, how to cope with…, etc etc. You do not use 'ing' form (gerund) after 'to'. Therefore, how to hosting is grammatically wrong.

'Keyword+howto' doesn't make any sense at all.

DogTrainingHowTo is ok but not brilliant

HowToDogTraining sounds very bad

I guess you really want to match what people would type when searching which would be

HowToTrainADog

HowTo is a good combination because a lot of people type it when they are trying to find something they want to know more about.

http://www.google.co.uk/ has a drop down suggest - If you try typing 'How To' in to it slowly that gives a good idea of what many people are searching for.

I suppose including that into the domain name will make domain name longer and less attractive.

I would say it really depends on the keyword.

HowToSkiing is just WRONG/BAD!
BUT...
HowToSki is spot on!!!

SkiingHowTo is OK (though not great) and the site's purpose (assuming it is a site about how to ski or how to do ski tricks) would be understandable to an English speaker based upon just the domain name.
BUT...
SkiHowTo sounds VERY wrong. (at least to me)

HowToFlyFish - GOOD!
HowToFlyFishing - BAD!
FlyFishingHowTo - OK/Acceptable

It all depends on the keyword.

I must agree with Jawed and TestCase. The best way is - How To read, walk, run, learn and so on as this way it sounds and looks the best. I must admit it could be difficult to find domain names like that, depending on the verb you are planning to use of course.

The example you provided - HowToHosting or HostingHowTo would be better to leave - TO - out all together so it would be just HostingHow, I have noticed that these combinations are quite popular. I even got some myself like that, FoodHow and ToolHow.

Thank You for the replies...
SkiingHowTo << if this sounds ok as TestCase said, i would like to go with howto at end >> keyword+howto.
only 'how' is not possible in my situation as howinfo suggested.
I dont care how people search in google or other search engines. Also i dont have any problem if my domain looks lengthier.
All i want is, including the keyword in domain name, that carries some weight as an seo perspective. As i already said, i want to explain a term through 'howto'. Major combination like keyword+hub keyword+home the+keyword are taken.

webhostingHowTo or HowToWebhosting
Here i think first is better.

Usually I don't come back to defend my opinion but since you seem new in the domaining industry, let me say it again:

HowToWebhosting is grammatically WRONG, period!! There is no question of 'better' here.

WebhostingHowTo is not a wrong phrase but it does NOT make any sense! There are millions of good catchy phrases available, which you can register or acquire from others for a few bucks but do not waste your money and resources on such a word that has a glass ceiling.

Your problem is that you are stuck with your own two words and don't want to see outside the box. :]

Sometimes I do not mind then but you have to be aware that adding "how to" into a domain name limits you a lot in some cases or most cases, if it is something like HotToTrainaDog.com then you can move out of that and do various things but if you start getting into something like HowToGrout.com then you are going to have problems later. It is just not broad enough.

Jawed is absolutely right about the glass ceiling, adding "how to" limits your choices unless you properly brainstorm and find a way around it, taking the dog training example to could use that for many things, there is only one way to grout tiles though.

And getting a domain grammatically wrong the first time sets you back from the start, invest in a good domain name that makes sense the first time around and it will keeps its value or even accrue it if you spend wisely :)

HowToCook.com = bloody brilliant and stellar domain name with virtually no equal. (this could have end users from a simple school meals cook to the 3-star Michelin rated Gordon Ramsay who is probably one of the top 10 chefs in the world)

HowToCooking.com = crap.

CookingHowTo.com (wtf were you thinking??!)
