I recently placed 11 backorders with INBackorder.com, a service that had been promoted on NamePros back in 2017, to catch some .in domains. It seems they have a good Dropcatching script and some fast Hosting and use APIs to catch domains from various registrar, instead of being Registrar themselves.

They managed to catch around 8 of 11 domains — but kept all of them for themselves.

When I checked the WHOIS info on day one, each domain showed the organization name as "INB". The next day, they changed the organization to "SELF" and pointed the nameservers to BODIS, which immediately raised red flags.

Moreover Even Registrar are changed from Dynadot to Namecheap, I do not understand how that's even possible. I have attached screenshots at the end (Update : I do not have access to upload images currently, please if admin allow below links for understanding)

I reached out to them asking why they didn’t list those domains under my account. Their response was:

"The domains are still under the observation period to make sure they remain active and do not get held by the registry, which is common these days for all .in registrations."

I’m not sure if that’s a valid explanation or just a way to justify holding onto the domains. I spent around $4000 in their auction last month. But now I feel that if the domains are valuable, they might just keep them for themselves.

Would appreciate any insights — am I missing something here, or is this service just not trustworthy anymore?

Yeah, I’ve seen similar things with INBackorder lately, and honestly, it’s getting out of hand.

They’ve been using multiple fake or shady registrars like Phoenix Corp., shivahosting.com, and Namo Devs - all clearly set up just for dropcatching. If you read the .IN Registry’s own policies, this kind of registrar-based dropcatching and hoarding is strictly prohibited. But somehow, they keep doing it openly.

What’s worse is that the registry seems completely blind to it. Regular registrants are getting their domains randomly stuck on “serverHold” or facing delays and unresponsive support, but these bogus registrars get away with everything. No questions asked.

INBackorder has become the main player in this whole mess. They’re the ones who set the trap for Mitsu when he tried to enter the dropcatching game. Mitsu got blocked, but INBackorder? Still going strong - and making crores from these practices while legitimate users suffer.

The excuse they gave you - about keeping domains under observation - sounds like a cover-up. Especially when they change WHOIS info, swap registrars. If they think a domain has value, they just keep it.

It’s frustrating because people like us put real money into this - and instead of a fair system, we’re stuck dealing with shady tactics and a registry that looks the other way.
