Improving CTR on NamePros... ideas/brainstorming

-RJ- has commented before that our CTR is rather low. My gut says that this is at least partly because of the placement/style of the advertisements. Perhaps we can all brainstorm about different locations/layouts that could increase CTR (And thereby namepros earnings, as well as our own (If you're in the rev share program with Adsense)).

1) Garrish colors - An option to draw attention to the ads, although it would detract from the professional feel of the site, I must admit.

2) Adding a single line postbit (about 15 pixels tall, not an entire ad unit) to the end of the 1st post of every thread (Like at DP). It's yet another opportunity to have a visitor (Read: Search engine result) click out of a thread by a paid link.

3) Have an ad unit (small) after the first post in every thread like on http://www.lifelaw.org/showthread.php?t=31 . That example is a forum that isn't active aside from SE results at the moment, but the CTR is pretty high all things considered.

4) Try having a random ad appear at the top of a thread after posting a reply to a thread... sort of like the skinny ad bars that appear some times (polurhosting/fabulous/etc).

Part of the issue with YPN for me is that the targetting has been horrible to date. For example, I'm getting more ads on ballet and shopping for clothes than I am for domain names (And as far as I know I'm not gay, even though YPN thinks I am ;) ). Is there an ad content seperator for Yahoo like there is for Adsense?

Just brainstorming... throw some ideas out there folks!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.US domains.US domains
even with extra ads ( which i think isnt needed ) forums always get shitty CTR
1 user can create 100 veiws on an adsense or YPN ad with one visit to a forum
i dont believe it can be improved

oh and i dont know if its just me but namepros homepage contains javasript errors and loads pretty slow.. i think its the templatemonster ads

Don't expect much to increase the CTR as you know that majority of your audience are domaineer or publishers.

Cheers,
