Hello Guys,

I have a very basic question.

If the .com of a certain domain sold for more than $3000, would that mean that the owner of .net/.org would get a good deal on the domain?
What if the .com was just a mediocre sounding domain..

Is it a good idea to invest in .net/.org domains whose .com sold for more than $3000 ?

Recently, I bought RentalCards.net because the .com went for $5000 on Afternic. Was that a good decision?

I have my eyes on a certain domain. It's .com sold for about $10,000 and the .org is taken. The .net is available! The domain doesn't sound like it's worth the price so i'm a bit skeptical about purchasing the .net.

Any advice would be warmly welcomed.

If the name is not a complete crap, and you can register it using some coupon or something, i'd say go for it. Sometimes companies tend to own all the mayor extensions of their .com domain in order to protect their brands. Register and try to contact them after few months.

But, remember: do it only if the name is not a complete crap. Oh, and if it's not trademarked.

In my opinion it's not a good investment because it wasn't even worth the buyers of RentalCars.com to secure the .net. They either seen it was available and it wasn't even worth the $6.99 to register or they didn't bother to check.

Check to see when the domain dropped or if it was even registered at the time the .COM was acquired. If it was available when the .COM was sold, then it's obviously worthless to the buyer of .COM
