I have seen quite a few registered lately, has anyone got any comments on these names. What if there was a good keyword name, is it worth grabbing.


I believe its the Isle Of Man, but are people possibly going to use the "Instant Messaging" acronym for these domains??

These IM domains are the most difficult domains to shift in my opinion. You shouldn't stock pile. Most of the end users I contacted prefer a .co.uk
IM. population is way too small for end users to care. This is what I have been told directly by UK companies after emailing and calling dozens. To sell one of these you need "Luck"

Also these are companies who have a presence in IM.

I have indeed noticed Isle of Man companies often use .co.im (older registrations) or .co.uk.

These IM domains are the most difficult domains to shift in my opinion.

If you think this is tough, try selling .ag domains ($105 renewal) and yet I sold two .ag domains for four figures each.

Selling anything good is not too difficult, as long as you keep your asking price sane. At least imho.

I'll probably take a hit on a few of these, but one good sale will probably cover everything I'm putting into it, so can't lose.

totally agree with you. it already happened to me. in fact, one sale didn't just cover all the rest, it made a nice profit too

Which domain did you sell and what for? I didn't say it was impossible to sell I said "difficult" And the prices I am asking for is sane! most in the £xxx range. The keywords are also Good. I agree with the above statement most of the companies based here will rather use co.im. I am not saying no one should stop buying these either.

I will give you specific example I tried to sell DIY.im to the owners of DIY.com and 3 other companies for £400 . Good keyword right? But none could care less about .im I ended up selling them a product related .co.uk

I also tried with to sell beds.im, betting.im, and a few more same replies. The fact that they are still some great keywords available in im goes to show you how popular they are.

The plain truth is you need abit of luck to sell these. I am based in the UK and trust me I regularly sell domains to businesses, they rather buy a product related .co.uk than buy a strong keyword in .im

This is not my opinion if just the facts. I just feel I have to be honest with other domainers if they are going to spend money on these to expect a
tough market.

Don't try to sell a topaz to someone who owns the diamond. Sell it to someone who owns coal.

There are 1000s of websites with the words DIY in them, all it would take is one person to pay you your asking price.

Try people with domains longer than 12 letters with the 'diy' in them, specially non-traditional extensions.

Apples and oranges, you can't even compare the two extensions. I get .im as a typo of .in btw.

Yup, be prepared to take a loss on the entire amount you've invested in this extension, it's a high risk game.

has anyone sold any? been trying to find endusers for this extension for weeks, searched through tons of webpages, check closets, rabbit holes, fox holes, even went through my partners handbag no leads, no luck. any thoughts who these end users might be? or is the strategy here to keep hold and hope this extension blows up. Am i missing something here?

Just rejected $500 offer on Tattoo via Sedo.

IMHO niche product keywords dont have much potential. Just as with .me, .co, .cc etc.
I dont think high CPC or exact searches make any sense unless it's .com, .net., .org, .info, .biz - very rarely can you see ccTLD domain at 1st-2nd Google results page even if it's exact keyword match.
Because exact match is only a small fraction of high position success with Google/Bing/Yahoo.

I cant imagine someone willing to pay anythin more or less noticeable for "computers/im" or "printers/im" - as it's not going to bring any more traffic/highr conversion to your main ecommerce site. And if you dont have successful ecommerce/adsense "computers" site already Computers.im/cc/co/bz wont help you much. That's why end-users hunting will probably fail in most cases.
I might be completely wrong of course..

However ego/image-driven generic "fetish" words (like "seo", "diamond", "cool"), first names, short/numbers ("qqq", "555"), professional/hobby names (i.e. "webdesigner", "gamer" etc) should have no problems selling (slowly) at high $xxx - low $x,xxx. People love fetishes..

Also doubt geo names can have much demand being as limited in commerce applications as product keywords.
I dont say they wont sell at all, but probably be ping-ponged on domainers forums/auctions back and forth for low $xx figures..

Just personal impressions though, no obligations

believe it or not but I've already read nearly all your blog posts there at mwzd.com. Thanks a lot, i learned some things i never knew. Great blog, lots of useful content, and nice WP theme too.

As for the offer - judging from other tld sales history the right price range should be 2x of wht i was offered. It's a "fetish" name, value doesnt have to have anything to do with exact searches or traffic stats. I'll wait for the right offer, no prob.
Unfortunately, i value most of my other .im names lower

And what you mean by threshold? Are you ready to accept anything above reg fee for any of your IMs? Please elaborate

For me any investment is about ROI and inventory costs, maybe your method is different, just so long as you can make it work for you.

And while I don't entertain lowballs, $500 - $2500 is a sweet spot for most sales, with the lower end being more likely for obscure extensions, for now.

I started buying .IM domains since 2-3 years but I don't think there is any use of having an aged domains in .IM because wherever we see the whois of any .IM domain you will never find the creation date...
