I have seen quite a few registered lately, has anyone got any comments on these names. What if there was a good keyword name, is it worth grabbing.

I believe its the Isle Of Man, but are people possibly going to use the "Instant Messaging" acronym for these domains??

Thanks for any advice??

Some of you keep telling that .im has no future but, including the names posted by lincolndsp, I can see a decent number of sales for a new and almost unknown TLD. Furthermore 'juegos', which is not even an English word, has been sold for a good price. This strengthen what I stated earlier in this thread that premium keywords always have some value, at least the highest ones.

That's the point! I've regged just 2 .im's and have no intention of registering others. In the worst case I will have lost 10$ for the registration fee.

I see no point in .im, you wouldn't brand a company "keyword im" or "keywordim" offline so I don't see why you would do it online. From a development perspective, it would hurt your SEO because Google would think it's an Isle of Man site and mark it down on relevance elsewhere. Getting to the top of Google is extremely tricky so you shouldn't hobble yourself with a meaningless ccTLD for the sake of a generic keyword that people don't search for anyway. Compare .im to .pro; with .pro you get brandability, businesses call themselves "keyword pro" or "keywordpro" offline, plus it's a gTLD so you don't get geo penalised by Google. The new wave of gTLD's coming out will wipe away ccTLD rubbish that domainers speculate on, if the domain doesn't add natural offline brandability and have SEO geo neutrality, you are in deep trouble.

Haha the more popular i see this extention getting the more I see keywords I searched and turned down being registered. GL getting money back on any of those besides perhaps transfer (which I chose not to reg, lucky oyu ;))

Haha, thanks, I suppose!

I had "transfer" and "locate" on my shortlist a few days ago...I am done with IM right now and am not too concerned if nothing happens with these - small investment and no regrets.

My thoughts are that I'd rather spend the money on a lottery ticket than buy a .im domain for resale TBH

i personally think you all are making it a big failure it self by going against it, i think we will find out 3 things in a few months

1) people who invested gambled and didn't lose much as they plan not to renew it
2) people who invested cashed out 6 times + what they invested
3) People who didn't invest feel happy that your a** didn't get burned

if you like lottery tickets so much then why are you into domains ? domains is also about luck and chance but then again it
has 1 year while lottery tickets ware outs soon.

Good luck to the people who invested.

on sedo: lasVegas.im $210 at the moment with under 3 hours to go.

Good Luck to those who jump in,
I'm not getting into this one. Personally I can see how .Tv works and .Me can and hopefully will work, but .IM seems to much of a stretch. More compareable to .ws

By the way if you are feeling particularly flush there are still some one and two letter domains going. The one that tickled my fancy was X.im for Ma.X.im hack however at just under ยฃ1000 for a year I'll give it a miss.

if you like lottery tickets so much then why are you into domains ?

Because there's zero chance of ever registering a domain today for $8 and selling it for millions, I like alot of things, just not .im domains for resale.

reasons being

1) Last year they took Isleofman.im off me a few weeks after registering it, without any reason - however, it was bought for development and not really for resale, I'd even started designing the look of the website in photoshop :td:

2) The place is tiny, there was probably more sheep there than people until the radioactive fallout from the accident at Chernobyl.

3) There has been very few decent sales of .im domains in the last year (although I did'nt know that a year ago)

4) Most the .im sales that namebio shows as sold are still parked at sedo, as someone put it above - they are domainer domains.

5) Very little chance of ever getting much local type in traffic or enduser sale (cos there ain't that many people living there)

6) Unlike .tv - .me there is'nt really any other semi-logical use for the extension .im (instant messaging, doubtful but ya never know ??)

7) Its hard enough to sell decent .coms to endusers, just spend some time watching the drops and you'll see ALOT of people are loosing ALOT of money.

well, you did ask - so there's my thoughts

Longlive.im - I very much doubt it

Just to mention that the local market is limited indeed: 80K inhabitants.

I would rather invest in .lu domains. I have just one .im domain that I hope to develop in due time. .im is not new really, so I can't understand the sudden craze. I think there is a tendency to follow the herd among domainers, the fact is you won't make a fortune by following in footsteps of other people, in particular if they haven't been too successful themselves ;)

In my opinion, the only reason why there is this sudden surge is because of the $4.99 price tag at Name.com right now. That is 93% lower and makes it a pretty low-risk investment. Assuming the price of renewal is $xxx, there is sure to be a ton of drops next year.

Sure, this extension is largely like .WS or .CC, but some of those names people have been regging for $4.99 sold for $xxx in those other extensions. Not a huge profit, but a huge return on a small investment. I don't know about the whole IM = instant messaging selling point, but I definitely think that is a better selling point than WS = website.

Okay, now I am rambling. Basically, I bought a few because of the low-risk. I don't expect big things, but I also don't expect it to be much worse than .WS. I *DO* agree that this is largely a domainers TLD unless the instant messaging part takes off - which I am skeptical about.

If they can advertise this, dress it up as "Instant Messaging" about "Technology" of the 22nd century and mass advertise on every domain market outlet like .me from .montenegro to "about you and me"

Who knows....

But then again, it doesn't look like they will dress Isle of Man to become Isle of Instant Messaging.

I bought one product based name for 2 reasons:
1. 2.7 million exact search results.
2. $4.99 registration fee.

I figure i can make reg fee back by old school backlinking and whyparking and eventually sell for $xx to low$xxx for solid profit on a small investment.

I registered about a dozen premium .im domains during the landrush a couple years ago and only managed to sell one. The name I did manage to sell, I saw recently for sale here at a price around where I sold it or maybe even lower (low to mid XXX). Over the past years I have not seen anything that says to me .im names are going to be with more in the future. I have let all but one of my .im names drop.
