I have seen quite a few registered lately, has anyone got any comments on these names. What if there was a good keyword name, is it worth grabbing.


I believe its the Isle Of Man, but are people possibly going to use the "Instant Messaging" acronym for these domains??

if anyone wants advice about .im domains I'm sure I can help. Yes there is limited appeal on the Island at the moment (~80,000 population) but the domains are becoming more popular as people start to use them. For instance, I recently launched numberplates.im

I seem to remember the buyer of music.im payed a lot, $10,000?
If I remember right he was involved in some dispute after winning an auction for music.mobi for $xxx,xxx only for the domain to be re-auctioned! I imagine it was around 2006 / 2007 but I might be completely wrong.

You'll have to google it I can't remember the full details.

Does .im fit "personal names" ?

Of course that .im are not so popular right now but i need opinions about

"name".im if we propose that "im" can stand for "instant messaging"

for me make sense that for ronald.im make sense or i'm on wrong way?
(i preferr,.com,.net,.info,.ws and they are better but of course names in this ext.are hard to find.

Any opinion about this?

In my opinion .IM makes sense only in saying "I am", not as an abbreviation. The problem is not so much the extention itself but the registry (unless they improved drastically lately). I remember a while ago several people were complaining about the registry and how hard it was to deal with them ; I believe I recall one or two people whose name was made defunct as if it were never registered and without prior warning, although this was a while ago so I don't dare to give the exact details of the story. I do remember clearly that several people found the .IM registry poorly organised and tough to deal with.

.ME by the way also makes more sense than .IM I'd say, although I heard some bad stories about .ME as well ... .NAME in theory is good but has been proven to be a failure. Maybe .ID has some potential (like an online identity card) but I believe this is no option now due to restrictions on registrations.

PS: .ws ?? Seriously?

I don't really want it back but it did suck that they took it off me without giving me a reason, I had started to develop it :td:

I guess the Isle of Man is pretty small so a word in the right persons ear goes a long way.

I have parked all my .im domains at SEDO and receives over 80 unique visitors on each for some of them which is a good sign...

From time to time, good keywords quietly drop. I got Contact.im, xyz.im, and Vote.im that way.

From an aftermarket standpoint, not so great. I wouldn't load up on them.

I just checked and found out that most of the traffic come to these domain is from United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and some of these domain receives over 70% traffic from United States

wow, could it be from Indians living abroad perhaps??, I can't see why many people would type in a .im, Isle of man is tiny and so is their population. (they're not midgets, there's just not many of them )

I had isleofman.im for a few weeks and it did'nt get that much traffic
