Imagine you are on year 1990, and you know that a big boom of domain marketing is coming in the next ten years, what would you register? And why?

business.com or creditcards.com, both of which are probably worth over $300 million right now. top keywords like these are a million times better than a random LL.com or NN.com which cant be turned into as profitable of a business. Most of the top domainers in the world dont even invest in things like LLL.com. certain keywords will get the type of traffic that can drive a business to make the name be worth so much more than just a certain number of months of parking revenue from PPC. From a pure standpoint of pride, i'd immediately get "Vienna.com & Fargo.com" and pay renewal fees for the next decades to come.

To be honest, if all were free, and all were available, I probably wouldn't register any, as would most other people, which is really pretty much what happened for a while in the beginning. If there was no demand, why register one?

However, If I knew where things were going and with today's hindsight, I would probably register Internet.com.

Keep in mind the time period. In 1990, words like cyber and portal were probably starting to get really popular, as were email and chat I'm sure...my 1990 8-year-old self would have probably gotten Cyber.com or Games.com. Knowing what I know now though, if I had just 1 to get, I'd probably get Travel.com - can cover tourism, airfare, hotels, rental cars, local restaurants and places to go in tourism hotspots, etc...just absolutely HUGE money in those industries and that's the strongest name to get a piece of all of them. Casino.com and Poker.com are a close 2nd and 3rd. Props go out to Buy.com, Shop.com, Home(s).com, Loan(s).com, Car(s).com, Web.com, www.com (still have to admit http://www.com looks too cool for school in the address bar), Sex.com, Porn.com, Domain(s).com (surprised no one's said this yet), etc...all good choices.
