Hyphen question

Do you usually reg the hyphenated version of a name if its commonly spelled with a hyphen? Let's say I wanted the name that would be about three-way interections. At least half the time people naturally put a hyphen there. Would you reg threewayintersections.com AND three-wayintersections.com?

Dashes in the domain name are not bad for SEO and search engines if that's your main traffic source, but they are a pain for viral and mouth-word marketing.

I would only purchase a hyphenated version if I also owned the non-hyphen version and I intended to develop... and the name was sufficiently short and strong to demand it. Gives a good extra level of protection to your brand.

Sorry, I may have misunderstood the OP. I thought he was saying that on hyphenated phrases, the hyphenated .com will get more traffic than the unhyphenated version ("at least half the time people naturally put a hyphen there").

That was what I was hoping to see data on. I've read the first thread you posted, but didn't see anything showing that.

If naturally hyphenated, get it. If you don't someone else will. However, always get the unhyphenated as well. There are very few cases to get a hyphen domain, but this one of them.

That was what I was hoping to see data on. I've read the first thread you posted, but didn't see anything showing that.

Sorry for the confusion - I did not mean type-in traffic, I meant to convey that its a commonly hyphenated phrase like the words "type-in" above.
