Growing popularity in both the .tv extension and IDNs seems the logical step as it will be sensible for each country to have the .tv domain in their own language, the basic IDN arguement - IDN.tv is available as a premium name - I am not inclined to speculate that amount so I got:

IDNs.tv :)

IDNs.tv was the last remaining option after I picked up IDNs.ws. I was wondering if someone was going to pick it up.

There are some interesting discussions (and registrations) of IDN.tv over at IDNforums.com. Some members have recently registered Chinese.tv (in Chinese), Japanese.tv (in Japanese), and sports.tv (in Chinese). I haven't gotten into it yet... just looking for the right term. :)

I think IDNs will be huge in the future. And .tv still has many great keywords available. Just takes some searching. Good luck.

I too think there will eventually be a market for IDN's in .TV,but not soon.Like non-IDN, only absolute premium names/phrases which compliment the ".TV" are worth regging IMO.
I only have one,ๅ††.tv, meaning "Yen",the Yen symbol,Japanese money.
IDNs.tv is a great "home base" type domain for when things really take off.I could see a registrar being interested in that one.
I'm hanging onto IDN.in and co.in for when India introduces thier IDN's.
I'm an IDN old timer,so it's great to see things moving lately.

I like your IDN.in /.co.in - but then I like .co.in / in - you may have noticed :)

Nothing to do with .tv but also regged BackorderIDN(s).com with a view to them really taking off - the Snapnames of IDNs :? :hehe:

Nice IDEA Wot snapnames of IDN could be cool, I know nothing about regging or finding IDN's but I see their potential.

The same, no idea - but the BackorderIDNs.com was a possible route in to an area where I have zero expertise. If I can't get in at least I can open the door :)

I think IDN is going to be a big thing. I have heard abt IDN.net in snap names being taken at 2200$. I think it really suits the .net .

Both dd24.net and idotz.net allow you to register IDN.tv domains.

Can I register a .tv Internationalized Domain Name (IDN)?
At this time, the .tv Corporation is supporting existing .tv IDNs but is not accepting any new registrations.

see fab 5's post above re registration sites. You also have to have a suitable browser. Firefox is a really good browser for it.

My strategy is to identify appropriate keywords in babelfish. Then, do a JP or CN overture search to see if a similar phrase is more used and then if there is a more popular term translate that phrase back through babelfish to see what it means and whether it makes sense to register that instead.

Then check all appropriate TLD's at dd24.net or idotz.net. If it is a good domain name it should already be registered in .com, .net and the relevant country code and often even .tv.

Korea especially has a very hight take up of .tv IDN's.

There are members on this forum that know way more about this than me - say thegenius1 and Fab5 though and obviously it helps to be able to discuss any registration with someone who speaks and writes the language natively.

The beauty of IDN.tv is that while Verisign may have designated Japan.tv (in English) a premium domain, with registration set at $10K / year, you could register Japan.tv (in Japanese - this one is taken though) for $30 / year.

JAugusto,

I was trying to reg one earlier today, and there was a problem with it for a little while, with no conenction to the .tv registry.

After about an hour or so, it was working fine again. So you might want to give it another try.

Thank Alex but they have on their faq:

Can I register a .tv Internationalized Domain Name (IDN)?
At this time, the .tv Corporation is supporting existing .tv IDNs but is not accepting any new registrations.

Also when I try something like olรกLisboa it gives me olLisboa as a return?!
The "รก" disapears!? Is the IDN search box the same as the one used to regular domains?

of course. See my post at #11 above re basic instructions.

Websites are:

www.babelfish.altavista.com for translation

www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/?keywords for keyword selection (Note that some cultures use different words for the same thing in English. For example shop in China might be more commonly called retail shop or market - check the keyword results to work it out or ask a friend) - its a bit of guesswork!

www.dd24.net to register

Lots of helpful info at www.idnforums.com as well.

My handle there is GranttheKiwi.

Good luck! DOTTVFAN
