So, I register a few .asia landrush names with answerable.com. I used a family members credit card to do so because they owed me some money. They names were registered succesfully and payment processed.

Two days later I recieved an e-mail from answerable saying that there was a security issue with the credit card and they would cancel the domain registrations within 48 hours if I did not send them copies of the credit card, drivers license, and a statement authorizing the transactions.

I tried calling them but their customer service is near none existen. When you call... If you press number # 1 for sales, it says no one is available. If you press #2 then it hangs up on you, if you press #3 you get someone in India.

So I talked to someone in Inda and they said they could not help me and that I should call back at 8pm my time when someone else in India that could help me would start working. Well when I called them back, I found out they had already dropped the names.

So, I immediately looked to see if there were available and indeed they were. So I registered them again and like an idiot I used answerable one more time. This time I used my own credit card so there would be no problems.

Guess what? Two days later, same e-mail saying the domains would be dropped in 48 hours if they didn't receive faxes of the credit card and drivers license. Of course there is no way I'm sending that to a company that appears shadey. They however did not wait 48 hours to delete the names. Good thing I was up early and checked this morning because I found they were already deleted.

Moral of the story, don't use anwerable.com.

How many of you all have tried to get in touch with them by phone lately?

I called so many times during the week and there was NO sales support.

Also, the first transaction I used a family members credit card, but the second time I used my own, so the second one should not have been a problem.

Also, they should deny the transaction upfront if that is what they are going to do. Not wait a couple days and then drop the names out of your account. What if you were away from your computer for a few days. You could lose your names and not even know it.

Very unprofessional imho.

Dude..... I spent a month trying to pay for this domain before it took a lawyer to get them to sit up straight.. So don't tell me it was some amateur mistake please.

Security measures? That's a load, my friend - I've paid many domains over the phone for 13 years. I've been buying domains since Aug. 1995. Any registrar that says that is a crappy registrar and you should have no domains there. :tri:

Dude....

I have almost 300 domains with them, and no complaints.

No offense. Did you get the same "blank space" each time when you try to pay for that domain through their online payment gateway? :D

You spent a month to pay.... very strange.

Every registrar has its own policies. Accepting or not accepting the orders through phone is purely the registrar's choice.

Directi is an Indian company, and in India processing CC orders through telephone is very rare, and it is considered as risky.

Sorry for your experience with them.

Well,

Last year I bought two 3 letter .WS domain names from the .WS registry, and paid for the domain names using my CC. The total amount was $2,000.

To my surprise, I received an email from the registry within a few hours from my order:

Dear <name>,

Your recent purchase triggered one or more of our fraud prevention measures. Your account has been automatically flagged as potentially fraudulent by our system. We require confirmation of your order with us. We must receive clear copies of the following by fax within 48 hours:

* Credit card(s) used (front and back)
* Signed statement from the cardholder(s) authorizing the charge
* Driver's license or passport for each credit card holder

Our fax number is 760-602-3099. Your prompt attention to this matter is appreciated.

Kindest Regards,

Patrick
.WS Fraud Prevention

Guess what! Their fax number was not working. So I sent the necessary documents within 2 days to their email address and included a message saying that their fax# was not working.

I received a reply within 24 hours from the .WS registry:

Good Morning,

Thank you for sending in the requested documentation. It is not necessary to fax in the information as well. We appreciate your compliance with sometimes inconvenient measures that are taken to help keep the .WS community safe.

Congratulations!

You now have successfully registered the domains:

LLL.WS

.WS Abuse

The CC processing script checks only the CC number and corresponding matching data, and debits the payment from the corresponding CC account. With almost every registrar, you can use anyone's CC to pay for the domain names with the matching CC data. This leads to increase in CC misuse. So, Answerable.com checks each and every individual transaction before it is getting processed. Even if you own the CC, they have the right to ask for scanned copies of front and back sides of your CC, along with an authorization letter from you.
