So, I register a few .asia landrush names with answerable.com. I used a family members credit card to do so because they owed me some money. They names were registered succesfully and payment processed.

Two days later I recieved an e-mail from answerable saying that there was a security issue with the credit card and they would cancel the domain registrations within 48 hours if I did not send them copies of the credit card, drivers license, and a statement authorizing the transactions.

I tried calling them but their customer service is near none existen. When you call... If you press number # 1 for sales, it says no one is available. If you press #2 then it hangs up on you, if you press #3 you get someone in India.

So I talked to someone in Inda and they said they could not help me and that I should call back at 8pm my time when someone else in India that could help me would start working. Well when I called them back, I found out they had already dropped the names.

So, I immediately looked to see if there were available and indeed they were. So I registered them again and like an idiot I used answerable one more time. This time I used my own credit card so there would be no problems.

Guess what? Two days later, same e-mail saying the domains would be dropped in 48 hours if they didn't receive faxes of the credit card and drivers license. Of course there is no way I'm sending that to a company that appears shadey. They however did not wait 48 hours to delete the names. Good thing I was up early and checked this morning because I found they were already deleted.

Moral of the story, don't use anwerable.com.

I wouldn't say answerable are shady, they and snapnames are pretty much one and the same, they and manage.snapnames plus website.in are all pretty much the same. But they are obviously a downright pain in the neck to deal with from your annoying experience

I would say they are shady. They ran me around circles on a domain that I won that I consider to be worth more than $100,000 when I tried to renew it there was no option to pay.

I called them and they could not figure out why I had a problem. The domain was coming up for deletion. They said everything was fine on their end and they more or less let me know it was my problem. Translation? They wanted the domain. They know pursuing someone in India is not easy to do.

So..... I called SnapNames and they had no clue either. I called Answerable back and they would not take a credit card over the phone and would not take any other type of payment form - unless it was on the site. Unbelievable!

So..... I then told them I was MR. Big Stuff and I would sue the living crap out of them. I also called SnapNames and told them they would be part of the lawsuit too b/c they took payment but gave me no way to access the domain for payment. Believe me....... I raised HELL like you have never seen.

Finally on the last day before deletion I had my lawyer call Answerable. They then somehow "managed to figure" out a solution and transferred the domain to another registrar and gave me login info. to manage the domain.

Total scumballs...... if you are asking me.

Website.in changed their name to Answerable.com recently - they are owned by Directi.com but I don't think they are anything to do with Snapnames. (other than snapnames has a partner arrangment for their drops)

Oh No, don't say that :o - I'v been transferring loads of my NetSol & Register.com names into them....I've had no problems with them yet but your two posts don't sound to promising.

I've only tried contacting them a couple of times and both times were fine, once by email and another by phone. I've not had any problems paying by credit card either.

Anyone else having problems with them ??

I would be worried if I were you. I tried calling them multiple times during business hours this past week and like I said in the OP, two of the options were dead ends and the third was of no help. Try calling them and see if you get anyone on the phone. If you don't, I would consider moving your domains elswhere. That is my two cents anyway, best of luck!

Credit card transactions are screened for possible fraud. If your data and the payer information do not match it's hardly surprising they flagged the transaction and are now demanding proof it's legit ;)
Perhaps it's best to drop them an E-mail, pay for the transaction and settle with your family member privately.

Why didn't you try PayPal payments, in fact they accept PayPal payments. They have high security measures to prevent credit card frauds. I have been using website.in/answerable.com for the past 16 months without any problems. Resellersclub is their main website, which is a part of Directi Business Unit.

DirectI was founded in 1998.

* Valued at: 300+ million dollars
* Focus: Mass Market Web Products for a Global audience
* Current Customers: 2,000,000+
* Current Customer Growth rate: 120% p.a.
* Current Resellers: 52,000+
* Current Reseller Growth rate: 170% p.a.
* Countries served: 240+
* Team Strength: 500+

They are very reliable, and one of the reputed domain registrars.

Yeah they do check cc transactions for possible fraud and any incorrect info would cause a red flag.

Like I said, they would not accept payment in any form in my case. When I went to the payment gateway it said "Select Your Payment Method Below", but there was no way to pay - just a blank white area below those words.
I tried paying by phone with credit card - they refused. I asked how we could pay this, or if they could renew it temporarily so that we could resolve this issue. Yet, they stonewalled me. They told me they had no idea why I would be having a problem when no one else was.

It took a boot up their ass to get them to help me.

Also, a $300,000,000 Company does not impress me. How many big co's like this screw folks over just like a street thug? No difference. One has a white collar to look more professional is all.

Well, I've had no problem with them. They've got a quirky panel that takes some getting used to, but I've regged many there, renewed and transferred out without any major problems. When I did, I simply opened a ticket and got results in a day or less.

The credit card issue is a legit one for them. How do they know you were paying with a relatives card? Let's say you were NOT an upstanding citizen and just "found" a credit card lying around. Now, you take this card and pay for your renewal. The real owner of this card sees the charge and disputes it. The company who took the payment is out of luck. Just good business on that end. Security is a good thing.

well,
It was not their mistake. The problem was at your end. Probably your internet connection was lost at that time, or something happened at your end.

I have just registered two names, and the payment options are working as usual.

Yeah answerable.com is no good. I used them before and found their platform r not user friendly. Once I tried to transfer my domain names to other register, and I cant find the authorization code for transfer. I search up and down, still cant find it. In the end I need to send them an email to tell me which to find the stupid authorize code. When they reply me for the steps to find it, I was quite surprised that it was hidden in some places and you will never be able to find it. So stay away from answerable.com(actually they are also called website.in).

Dude..... I spent a month trying to pay for this domain before it took a lawyer to get them to sit up straight.. So don't tell me it was some amateur mistake please.

Snapnames got on the phone with them after I threatened lawsuit and neither could get it resolved.

Security measures? That's a load, my friend - I've paid many domains over the phone for 13 years. I've been buying domains since Aug. 1995. Any registrar that says that is a crappy registrar and you should have no domains there. :tri:

I've never had a problem with them. In fact, I have always found them to courteous and extremely helpful in all my dealings with them and I have never encountered any problems.

I am however, sorry for your experience with them.
