The domain hk.tv is about to drop on Thursday, April 30th.

This domain has been reg'd since 22-feb-2004 and is a $1000/yr premium (which is relatively cheap compared to most other LL.tv's). Whether it stay's at that price remains to be seen...

There are 231,000,000 Google results for hk and HK is recognised by the ISO as the two letter country code for Hong Kong - http://www.iso.org/iso/english_country_names_and_code_elements

I find it strange that the current registrant would let this one drop. I'm sure that it would have made much more than the $1000 reg fee had it been auctioned on sedo. JMHO

Agree - not a great decision.

I had the owner down as dpaws dot com.

Everyone has a reason.

Is anybody going to contact the owner or is it too late?

It's sad because I believe this one is worth $1,000 being the country code of Hong Kong.

Thanks, Jim

Enom.TV will raise this to at least 10K (greed!) per year. This is the downside of .TV domain extension.

Wow, I'm surprised to see that one drop.. Very nice name with an obvious development route.

It is very possible that the owner is not a domainer, therefore is not aware of possible venues to sell the domain.
$1000/y is a lot of money if you don't actively use and monetize the domain.

Renewal has been raised to 10K/yr.

The greed of going from $1,000 to $10,000 a year makes me sick. I know it's there business Verigisn/DM but it's just another example of being out of touch with your customers.

Thanks, Jim

That's absolutely disgusting IMHO ... it's no wonder that the ".TV" has not taken off even after all these many years - due, in part, to being handcuffed by ridiculously high (and greedy :$: ) annual renewal fees! :guilty: :yell: :imho:

Jeff, we .tver's all know about the "PREMIUM" renewal fee's to which you are referring. My concern with your reply in this post and others - http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=579556 is that to anyone who is unfamiliar with the extension your comment's appear to include all .tv's.

As you well know, the majority of .tv domains fall under the category of regular renewals which are currently approximately $24/yr.

Of course there are some designated "PREMIUMS" that incurr a far higher cost. I would advise anyone to check with www.ahead.tv prior to buying a .tv domain in the secondary market to make sure whether there is/is not a premium fee attached to the domain.

I welcome anyone to the .tv forum who wishes to put forward their views and debate the topic, however, to only give half the story/truth, is not productive or helpful to anyone.

Agreed Len.
It's a popular but untrue statement from domainers on many forums that most of the decent .tv's have really high premiums, they tend to focus on the .Tv's that are left unregistered as proof but that doesnt show the many 1000's that are taken without massive premium fee's.

^ Great advice (to check prior to any .TV purchase!), and in my agreeing post above ... I was referring to the $1,000 (and now $10,000) annual renewal fee of the referenced domain name - many PREMIUMS, of course, do have high renewal costs such as these IMHO. :guilty:

It's been widely debated that, in general, these high recurring costs have curtailed the use & adoption of the ".TV" extension (folks who might otherwise acquire and develop these PREMIUMS may seek more affordable alternatives, for instance - also, lack of immediate monetizations to pay these yearly fees, etc.) ... and please let me be clear; from many, many years ago I am on the record that I am AGAINST these high and prohibitive annual :$: renewal fees! :yell: :imho:

just cos someone puts a price on it at 10K/yr does not mean it worth that.

Just checked some names through the Premium Renewal Checker from Ahead.tv, and got sick to find out that, for example, Romania.TV has a $10.000 renewal fee, and, get ready, Sex.TV has a $250 renewal fee. Two hundred and fifty bucks. Or F*ck.tv - $25. What'd you say about that?

If you read the forum you would know that .tv has many pricing points and many deals done over the years. The two most influential and biggest holders of .tv Igal Lichtman and Elequa have $25 and $50 pricing on every domain they own as they were involved at the beginning and stepped up and helped DOT TV Corp when it was needed. Many others involved in 2000 to 2002 got great deals and then many here during the Golden Age of .tv pricing got great deals in 2006. 70% off up front and 50% off renewal pricing. SO $1000 premium for $300 for as many years as you like upfront and then $500 after that for the renewal.

Its not for everyone and its not for those who have not taken the time to read and learn about the extension, its pricing and its history. Reg .tv's or hate .tv's either way both you and the extension will be fine, and the world will keep turning.
