Hi, I guess I can say I am a domain newbie. I recently took a look back at my domain profile I got like 60-70 domains registered in about a year most of these domains are duplicates .net .com etc. Most of these names I have no need for...I would buy some names that sound interesting or I think would sell for a good amount but its not happening...I guess I was caught up with all the domains I saw selling for high figures. I dont know I wasted about $700-$800 on names alone...some I will keep others I am trying to sell to get some money back but its hard getting the right person to buy...I was just feeling kinda bad spending the money on all of these domains. :'(

Most domainers have a story like this. You can bulk them together and try to sell on ebay before they expire, or sell them here for NP$. Not much else I can suggest unless you develop them. Sorry :(

Not knowing what domains you have, it's difficult to advise what to do with them, what you did is no different than what most newbies do, If the domains are brandable, dont expect many inquires, they are very slow to sell requiring you to hold onto to them for many years....Generics is where the money is and has the fastest turn around, if you cant afford some of these, I suggest you try some of the other hot TLD's.

That is why I need to stop at the 14 domains I own. I have several ideas for them as websites but getting the time and knowledge of developing these sites are very limited. I'm into weather and have a few of those, two golf sites, several adults names, and a few business sites and finally a good teacher site. Just hope that I don't get in our bind.

Ah...man I tend to buy names on things I am interested as well such as cars, realestate, etc. These names from godaddy cost me about 12-14 each depending on how much I purchased and the coupons I used. I have so many of them I dont know why...it was a bad decision. I am feeling so bad...almost depressed...I dont have much money as a college student most of these domains were purchased with my parents money and I just hate to see it go to waste :'(

When I first ran my site a month ago...I realized how hard it actually was to get one up and running properly its more than I can handle...and now school just started
:'(

Sell or develop. You can do either. But sometimes it takes buyers a while to decide if they want it or not. Ebay auctions is one that was suggested. But there is always something to be said about ebay domain auctions as well. You can sell here as well. If anything sell at the reg fee you paid for if you feel they are not premium.

Developing them can also fetch a few extra $$ as well.

I do know what you mean about buying to many domains. I am also a FT college student and work 2 PT jobs and raise 2 teens by myself. So $$ is limited. I was able to downsize my portfolio. I turned a few into blogs. Waited about 3 months and than sold for a few extra dollars than I reg them for.

No need to get depressed friends.

You can check out our Web Designing section, Programming section, Webmaster tutorials section and when you are done with developing you can also hang in SEO section right here on NamePros.

Even if you have limited knowledge you can always ask for ideas and free/opensource scripts that could be used to make the site. Hosting accounts if you don't have then you can surely check some nice offers by our fellow NPers in the hosting section.

Put ur domains for appraisal here and accordingly set them up for sale.
Even if you get reg fee on some, atleast a part of your investments comes back.

Put even the ones you dont wish to sell for appraisal, so that you know where exactly you stand.

Maybe one of ur domains fetches you enough to retain others for some more time.

Fiinally i say it again, Put those Domains for Appraisal ASAP!!!

All the best :)
Rohan.

I've also bought too many domains and now I'm stuck with them and don't know what to do. Nobody wants to buy them. I reckon I've wasted about $200.

I was told right when I started buying domains not to expect a sale for the first 12 months on my hand reg's. It was about 8 months before I started seeing a couple good offers. SO don't get discouraged. I buy knowing I will hold onto them for at least 2 years before seeing a return on investment.

Like a couple days ago I registered 1-0-5.com. It might have value today as they all were bought up and there is no more to reg. but the real payoff will be in 1-2 years (unless an end user makes a nice offer) :)

good luck, gary.

I wasted about $200 too before I got on the right track and bought names on the aftermarket/expiring names.

I suggest you give Snapnames a visit...

I just got off school early today :). I dont know guys I am not someone who can bounce back from situations like this easily. My dad never seem to care if he lose in an investment in stocks and real estate he seems to move on fine, but I can't seem to do that. He doesn't work anymore and my mom in the other hand works 10-12 hours days and I hate to see her money go to waste. I spoke to both of them and my dad said I should learn from this and 800 is not much of an investment. My mom was kinda mad like always but told me not to take it too hard.

I was hoping to make some money from some of the names and to also get a good name to develop a site that would make me some ok income to help my parents out but its not working out. Its harder than I expected and more time consuming. I dont have the time to deal with this at the moment so I think I may just sell everything I have for the time being it will make me feel alot better.

I will post my domains up for appraisal soon, I would be happy to make atleast half of what I spent back. Thanks for the response guys I guess I am not the only one who had wasted $$ on domains. I should stick around more and learn so I dont make too many of these mistakes. :hehe:

I suggest newbies read up at NameNewbie.com or Domaining360.com before buying names.

hi bigaldizzler,

No need to get depressed friends.
yes, thats totally true :) :tu:
i quoted just this but entire -Nick-`s post is really great, believe me and read what he told u to do

I suggest newbies read up at NameNewbie.com or Domaining360.com before buying names.
thats another very very good suggestion!!!

Krossat`s advice is important... get appraisals of ur domains and follow the other advices as well

i SPENT $460 D-: and the names i bought really have their value less than reg fee, actually they value $0 D-: i guarantee u that and i didnt recover it yet and i know i will but it wont be right now... in domaining u have to read many topics in those sites listed here, here in NP and u will learn a lot

but the most important is -> DONT GIVE UP
domaining is very nice and u can have a good profit here

good luck for u
best regards,
bricio

I think you should start selling them to get ROI.

i know how you feel, but on a slightly less painful scale. I've had to let several domain names expire, and it hurts a bit, since its obiously a wasted investment, but you can also look at it optimistically as forcing you to register better names, which you will not allow expire. Thats how i domain these days. Any name i register, i want to like it enough to keep re-registering it.

Have you considered parking your domains? You can open a parking account for free. It's worth a try. You can at least park them until you sell them or they expire. I have domains parked at Sedo, Parked, and Bodis. GoDaddy charges to park domains. The others are free.
Hope this helps!

I totally understand how you feel! I started domaining this spring and registered about 15 absolutely worthless names in a couple of days. I thought that they sounded cool.

Thank God I found NamePros!

I spent a lot of time reading and watching what sells (namebio.com is a great resource!) I mostly buy names on snapnames now and some are pretty good most are still horrible. I had my first sale this summer and that pretty much covered all the money I spent so far.

Don't give up! Try to sell your names even if it's at a loss. Then find 15-20 bucks somewhere and try to pick up a nice dropped name at snapnames. Do your research!!! (overture, goolge, archive.org, backlinks etc.)

Good luck!
