I am just curious about a logo that my country ( Romania ) has paid 950.000 Euros, that is 1 million dollars.

How hard it is for you to make one, in how many hours you will do it and what is your REAL price, not like the one stated above.

I am a webdesigner also and I think that this logo can be made with a maximum of 1000$.

Here it is:

I never thought anyone would pay that amount for just a logo, I mean come on they are a lot of thing that you can do with those money not just spending it all in 1 logo. Well it's all said and done anyways.

They paid that much not for the complexity of the finish logo but instead for how well known the design company was and big surveys to see what the countrys business people wanted in a logo and logo tests. After the logo is done its easy to look at it and say i could do that on my mac lol. A mil still alot of money though lol

As with transactions involving any government, the contract recipient was most likely well connected to government employees already.

Same thing we see everywhere: People offer to donate solutions to problems, governments deny the donation and spend $10mil on something that won't work.

Enough of the rant. Having dealt with clients over the past 5 years, I can personally understand how the bill could get quite high. I usually make 3 logos for $xxx. If the client wants tweaks or more concepts, I charge $35 an hour. So as long as the client is up front with payments, we can work as long as the client wishes.

I could understand if this logo were to cost $2500 - $5000, factoring in many variables.

$1,000,000 for this logo is governmental fraud.

They paid that much because its a large "company" so the exposure of the logo is very large. Also the research that would have gone into it would of added alot to the total costs.
Logos shouldn't be judged on purely their final concepts its the stages getting there that make the difference and the "story" behind it.

Take the FedEx logo, that's so simple once you look at the finished logo, I could make that in like 5 mins. But, it's considered one of the greatet logos of all times. Simplicity is alot harder than over complicated things. The more you take away from a design the more likely you are to find the flaws- so It has to be spot on.

That being said, 1 million does soom tooo much for that, as I can't see any significant story behind it, maybe if the design company did a case stufy post it would clear things up a bit more. I would charge around £700 for that.
