hey guys

I want to get a domain, but before I do; was hoping to get some advise regarding the following:

For example:

Domain Name:
autobodyrepair.net < not the actual domain

Google search: auto body repair
32,000,000 results ( exact search for the domain I am looking at )

Google Keyword Tool: < actual searches using the keywords

Global Monthly Searches: 27,100

Local Monthly Searches: 14,800

cheers

Just kidding :D
If it is available for registration and some popular extension reg it immediately. If you plan to buy it from someone, stats are good but you should tell us how much seller ask and which extension it is. Although there are many other factors

Pretty good stats. Is this a new registration or are you buying from somebody. What are you going to do with the domain, park it or develop it? Don't google also provide EPC, estimated value per click? That would be helpful also. As mitok said, it would be useful to know the price and for you to confirm the extension.

Questions
-Are these exact searches, phrase or broad?
-What TLD is it? These stats would be phenomenal for .COM (if exact), good for .Net but perhaps only so-so for .Info.
-What is the pricetage associated with this acquisition? Reg fee or backorder probably would work out well but if acquiring from another domainer, it depends.
-Is the intent to market this name to end users or develop? Given the millions of search results, you may still have a difficult time ranking the site. Note that 90% of search traffic goes to sites on page one.
-What is the commercial value of the product or service in question? It is possible that a search term may still not make for a great registration if there is no easy way to monetize it.

Sorry guys; I accidentally posted the stats of a domain that was already register!

I went a head and Registered the domain I was looking at for reg fee.

Domain name is:
studentplan.net

Google search: student plan
151,000,000 results ( high results )

Google Keyword Tool: < student plan

Global Monthly Searches: 40,500

Local Monthly Searches: 22,200

Most likely for resale; if I don't find a use for it!

cheers,

Next time you must use exact to do calculation of keywords count.

Global Monthly Searches: 390

Local Monthly Searches: 110

Bottom left side of the tool, use exact rather than broad.

Broad just means those words are use in within the search field some how

Exact means it's exactly what they typed in.

My first advice would be, don't buy any domains if you have any doubts or questions, unless you like to gamble (throw away money), in which case, buy a lottery ticket for $1. Your cost is less and your chances of winning are about the same. :)

Ok first off, when you talk about "search results" you are typing in the keywords in Google to see what the reults are right?

Why are you doing this? If you have an answer, good. Otherwise, don't check numbers and get impressed unless you know what you are doing.

When you search in Google for "student plan" without the quotes, you get 151 Million results, but what does this mean? What it means is that Google know about 151 Million pages that have those two words somewhere on the page. They may or may not be together. If you use the search WITH the quotes I get "About 76,800 results".

The disturbing thing about both searches are what is missing: paid ads. I don't see anyone bidding on these keywords. This means your PPC bids are going to be low if there are any, and if you want to find a buyer for the domain, there may not be too many.

But the main thing, in my opinion, is that while it's nice to see the keyword phrase is being used a lot, the actual value of it being found on many pages may or may not be anything.

A much greater indication of value will be the searches that people do which you are finding with the Keyword Tool. But there to as others are mentioning, you need to know the difference between broad, phrase, and exact matches to get the best idea of the potential value.

Broadly speaking

i would add sometimes words with a lot of searches a lot of cpc bids still are no good cause they are too broad.I bought a lot of bad domains that way.example like [electronic stores]22,200 22,200
$1.46 - so its got 22 exact and bids but what kind of electronics would they be searching for? Where?.I guess people develop names like that now using sub domains Ohio.electronicstores.com if you were doing that it could work out [.us is available if you like that name] hey:lol: ohio.electronicstores.us .or...electronicstores.us/ohio pretty catchy.Of course in usa easier to just search "local best buy store" that's all thats left....

electronicstores.com would be a great domain for a directory of electronics stores. "electronics" is a wide topic, so the site could easily have a lot of content, and the best part is you could get people to add content for you. :)

Are you buying the domain because you are really interested in it and have enough information to provide or just because you find a potential to earn money out of it? You need to think about the content you are going to provide, that matters. And if you find the statistics you provided above good, then you can go ahead.
