Starting off with a reseller is a wise choice, you get the feel of how to manage things, instead of going for a dedicated server right away. When you are comfortable with things, and as you get more customers, that's when you may want to buy a server for your hosting company.

Also, make sure that you have a lot of technical know-how and you are really knowledgeable in WHM/Plesk/whatever software you may be using.

that's a good business :imho: start from a reseller like what peter phillips has said then graduate from owning a vps and then on to a dedicated server. you have to learn first actual and first hand. good luck :)

Get a good company that is willing to answer your 1000 reseller questions the first few months.

I recommend Web host manager over Plesk but that doesn't mean Plesk is bad.
I just prefer WHM.
I pay more than most for my dedicated server only because the extra 50-60$ month is worth good support imho.

As far as I can see hosting business is much more of 24/7 support and management. This is a kind of dedication to business unless you have support team. Get ready to dedicate yourself. As for good resellers I will recommend some reliable hosters if you PM me.

I've used WHM before I really never used plesk

Hello dragonx,

Before you start a web hosting company, consider the following:

- Will you have the time to run a company by yourself?
- Why should customers choose your services over another?
- Do you have enough hosting knowledge to provide support to your clients?
- What will make your business unique, and will not seem as "just another webhost"?

Before you start a host, make sure you'll be prepared for whatever happens, unexpected downtime, bad ratings, etc. I recommend that you draw out a business plan, and set out everything that you plan on doing.

And as always, be professional.

Cheers,
Joey Malinowski

If you are alone then you should start with host like varhosting.net (that supports your customers to). I think their PremiumReseller plans should be good for you (24x7 Live Support for your Customers + Free Lpanel billing software)

My best piece of advice is to put your customers first. Many hosts don't offer the level of support that is needed.

yea that should be a main focus in any business putting your costumers first. If my customers are happy I'm happy and your business will grow if your business has excellent support

Either learn to give up sleep or hire support staff.

Remember that hosting is not "easy money" - there is a lot of work involved and your customers will expect support 24/7

dont offer hosting for peanuts, charge a reasonable price for a reasonable service..

Charging peanuts will ensure you get students with no money and no knowledge of host configuration and will have a more sinister and/or joking reason to require the service and will probably install a virus or such like or use up all the server capacity which in turn will take down your real customers sites and them "piss off", you will spend an unhealthy amount of time dealing with complaints and server maintenance and repair and then go out of business with 6 months...

Ask Anand, he'll tell you

:)

Well, its easy to setup but wat about those bad debts that keep climbing and people dont pay for hosting or try to get it free? There are a lot of problem, make syure you know how to handle them before you take the plunge!

try to standout from the crowd..as you can tell..there's like a bazillion hosts out there...
so..what makes your company special?..that's a good question to ask.

and as many has said, give good support to your customers.

as for reseller plans,i would recomend resellerzoom.com

All the Best!

Before you buy any reseller's account, use Alertra to monitor their server, and note the response time and if there's any downtime.

If you go with a server that has constant downtime, then trust me, it's living hell - People are all going to E-mail you to cancel their accounts.
