Web Hosting Reseller account?

Dear Web Hosters,

I have a few questions regarding the Web Hosting Reseller account.

1. Can you create your own Business name and Domain name when reselling Web Spaces from some Web Hosting company? Or you have to say that you are acting as a Reseller for the Web Hosting company?

2. How about maintenance? As a reseller, is it your job to do Server maintenance (virus check, mp3/malware/hackers account checks) ? or is it the parent Web Hosting company responsiblity?

3. When a customer wants to open an account... is it you that create an account and register the domain name? or you just pass it to your Parent Web Hosting company?

Sorry if I have too many questions as I'm really interested as reselling some Web Hosting space.

Thanks a byte...

Greetings!

1. Sure you can create a business of your own. A web hosting company using a reseller account is still a business.

2. It is the parent web hosting company's responsibilities. Yours is to take care of your client.

3. You will be in-charge of creating the hosting account for your client through a certain control feature an example of which is a WHM/CPanel tandem that runs on most Unix-based hosting accounts.

You're welcome. I hope that helps.

OK... thanks for the explanations. And How about Registering Domain names...?
You are able to do that through the Control Panel as well?

BTW, are you a Web Hosting Reseller?

You may be able to register your domain name via the control panel, it depends on how the host has their server setup.

Regardless, you can list yourself as the Technical Contact on the name so if anyone does a WHOIS lookup on the domain name they will see you are associated with the name and not the host. The only way they could find your host is if they checked out the nameservers to see who owned those...but they would have to be real savvy to do that kind of inspection.

To briefly answer your other questions...

1) Yes, with reselling the best case scenario is one where your host is invisible to your clients.

2) It's the hosts job to take care of all the backend such as server maintenance, security updates, etc. That's part of the beauty of reselling. Your host takes care of this while you can focus on your clients.

3) As for who sets up the new account for your client, this depends on how your host has it setup. It's possible you can add it via your control panel and take care of everything yourself or you can fill out a couple of forms and your host can do it for you.

Thanks,
Anthony
