hi everyone, i just joined because i’m honestly stressed out and i think i made a really stupid mistake.

a few weeks ago i noticed BigInterview didn’t own the .ai version of their domain and for some reason i convinced myself i had found some big opportunity. i went and bought biginterview.ai, and then also bought the .co, .app, and .info too because in my head i thought maybe they would want them and i could sell them back.

the more i think about it now the worse i feel because i really did not know what i was doing. i even went full idiot mode and made little parking/for sale pages for them like i was doing something smart, which is honestly embarrassing to even admit.

i tried emailing them and got no reply at all. nothing. and now i’m sitting here feeling like i just threw away a chunk of my savings for no reason.

today i panicked and listed them on afternic basically at cost just so maybe i can get out of this without losing too much. i put the .ai at $99 and the others at $50.

i know this probably sounds naive. it probably was. i think i got carried away and thought i had found some hidden gold mine when really i was just being impulsive.

so i guess i’m asking people who know more than me... did i completely screw myself here, or is there at least some chance these sell at those prices? i can handle hearing that i messed up, i just want an honest opinion at this point.

also, please don’t take this post the wrong way. i’m not here trying to get anyone to buy these domains or promote them or anything like that. i’m being serious and i genuinely took time to write this because i’m stressed and kind of lost right now. i’m only asking what the smartest next step is from here.

thanks, and sorry if this sounds all over the place. i’m kind of beating myself up over it.

Practically speaking, they already own the .COM. They don't really need other extensions.

If they really wanted them, they would have already registered them.

You basically bought domains that have (1) potential end user, that already owns the domain they need.

That is excluding obvious potential trademark issues.

I would consider the money spent a total loss.

However, if you learn a lesson from it then the money wasn't completely wasted.

Thanks for the honest opinion, Brad. I appreciate the reality check. The reason I got so carried away was seeing the CEO’s bio specifically mentioning they are an 'AI-based' system. In my head, it felt like a perfect match, but I realize now that having the .com is all that matters to an established company.

I’m going to take this as a 'tuition fee' for a lesson learned and move on. Thanks again for helping a newcomer out.

Don’t be too hard on yourself as many investors make similar mistakes in the beginning. Think of it as a small “tuition fee” for learning how the domain market works. Listing them at cost on Afternic was a reasonable step. If they don’t sell just avoid renewing them next year and move on. The key lesson is to focus on generic, brandable, or dictionary terms, not domains tied to a single company.

Another beginner here who to some degree relate to your experience. As the guys said above, it's normal to make mistakes as beginners and better consider it as a learning experience and move forward. I have registered some useless domain names relatively recently and now the more I study and learn from the experts, the clearer my focus gets.
Best of luck to you

I was scanning an old list of .ai domains and found one that was unregistered, even though it was already taken in many other extensions. It looked like a gem.

But I knew it probably wasn’t.

Out of curiosity, I googled it, and it turned out to be a big, established company.

Whenever you find an .ai domain that looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Chances are a big company already looked at it and decided not to buy it.
