I keep seeing TWO character domains discussed, bought and sold but every time I enter in ANY two characters I get an ERROR: INVALID DOMAIN response.

Anywhere, even on foregin exchanges.

How did or does anyone register a 2 character domain?

I believe on domainsite.com and namespro.ca you can search for 2 character names. :)

Generally you have to go to the extension's registry to get 1 or 2 character names. With some extensions though, you CAN get them at your favorite registrar if you make sure to search that ext and not .com. Hope that helps.

WOW!!! Some countries are VERY proud of their extensions!!! Try near $300 per year in some cases. Some want ONLY $100 per year but sell ONLY in 10 year blocks. $1000 bucks to reg a name!

And to think, we scour the Internet looking for $2 discount codes for GoDaddy. LOL!

Found some GREAT domains though ;) Yee-Haw!

Just have to shop around.

DD24 is good, although they report incorrectly as to what is/isn't available sometimes.

I get 2 letter .vc's and co-managed ccTLD's from Dotster, and I'm plenty pleased. (See sig, etc.)

Actually, the .cx register is http://www.domains.cx
These domains are ~$37US and are the cheapest two character domains that I know of.
