Hi NP mods, I have a suggestion. It would be a good idea if you can add a small clock/watch at the top of the forum and call it the 'NP time'. This will make auctions a lot easier for international users.

:sold:on the idea:) A long time ago (had to be about two years ago), suggested same. But, think the rational behind not doing so was that most would next expect the clock to be "live" (ie, flash or alot of calls to server by Ajax or iframes) so that users could see clock change without leaving pages (like in the chatroom). That would kill the servers:( But, a static "text" only clock would be nice, since as you suggested "NP time", would be the "official" time and couldn't be argued later...If you had to refresh page to see current time, that's your issue, but having it would simplify things for sure. And saves folks from spending forever figuring-out how far off they are from another member's time-zone if we all are looking at the same clock/time.

Tried once offering free "live seals" for members to post in their sales/auction threads. Tried both .gif images (one example below - but had few people interested) and Flash (because flash could be truely "live" ticking clock without refreshing the page, but flash not usable on the forums, albeit it could be used on other sites you might have - and even fewer people were interested). Just seems to me, folks would want a way to get together on that, especially auction sellers and bidders:)

What I got stuck posting on any auctions I hold is a gif like the one below(for my example, I used your own domain, if you don't mind, since it's actually in auction:p):

AuctionTimer

Care to ever use it, the code for the above image is below. Note: All end-times on it are US Central Time Zone (think you can figure-out how to use it via URL posted below - numbers for all but domain, and all are the time auction ends - Central Time Zone). I'll work later to fix that, so you can enter a time-zone in the URL, and not have to calculate it yourself. If the domain-name is longer than 30 characters long (including the ext. - ".com" here - it cuts it off and ends it with "...". And, when I get it fixed (I'll post back here), will get it so you can put your name where the gray "MyDomains.net" appears vertically (which reminds me, need to down-size whole thing..LOL). Also, the domain must have a valid nameserver it is pointed to, or the image/seal will show the domain "example.com" instead. Not a perfect solution, but works in the meantime.

Regular HTML:
Code:
<img src="http://mydomains.net/NP/AuctionTimer/?year=2010&month=7&day=26&hour=3&minute=49&dom=Babykleidung.tv" border="0">
On Forums (BB code):
Code:
[IMG]http://mydomains.net/NP/AuctionTimer/?year=2010&month=7&day=26&hour=3&minute=49&dom=Babykleidung.tv[/IMG]

As to your original post...We still need a clock up top! Agree 100% with you:kickass:

That's good stuff there.

But it would be a great addition to the forums for sure.

How can you set a generic time on a forum for all the users.
That would be more confusing than anything... :o

NP time is whatever timezone you are in - having a generic "anytime NP time" would
be a waste of time - just do the math

EX: I post at a sale at 10am (PST) - ends 24 hours after last bid...bid comes at 11am (PST)
still ends 24 hours later - same time as it is at your house but the next day!
whether it's est, pst, cst etc
Doesn't matter what time it is at my house, or your house - 24 hours is 24 hours!

1) TRUE...TRUE...TRUE...
2) FALSE...FALSE...FALSE...

1) True IF "Auction closes after 24 hours without a higher bid."
2) False IF "Auction is won by the highest bid placed by August 5th, at 5:00pm"

1) Depends, as you're "stretching it out hoping someone will outbid in 24-hours".
2) Depends, as you're like Sedo, Afternick, or many NPers, and saying "Get it before the gavel falls!"

Depends on the situation:bah:

Maximum still begs for his NP clock on top of the forum pages:P

However, I will still be a gentleman to the lady, when replying to her, by saying "You're only ½ wrong!" OK, sorry to a lady:loveyou:...Guess my own logic makes me ½ wrong too, looking at it from the other auction direction:O I get your point, but as stated, depends on how you're using it and what type auctions you are running.

I'm an idiot:bah: Guess I have to go add to my "stupidity" profile:

Look at the bottom right side of every NP page...I forgot that clock was already there. It has been there for ages.

maximum isn't getting enough sleep:tri:

:imho: anyone able to bid on an auction should also be able to calculate what time it is "NP Time". "NP Time" is Pacific Standard Time (PST) or GMT - 8.

Eric, why do you insist on complicating things?

When my site was on vb3.8 we had a custom clock code put in around the under where it says
Welcome, BD.
You last visited: Today 8:33PM
Private Messages
current time current date

sheesh I don't think I can dig up that code anymore though sorry :(

BD,

The current time is posted near the bottom (right side), and your last visit time is posted near your avatar up top on the right side. Only thing NP doesn't post in that is the current date. Thanks, anyway, but we already have it:tu:Just several of us forgot that the current time was at the bottom, as most of us never scroll down that far:hehe:
