Hello,
I found a domain name that's going to drop within next couple of days with 592 backlinks and no rank according to alexa. The domain itself is not that great. Why does this domain doesn't have any rank in alexa, if it has 592 backlinks? Shouldn't it receive a decent amount of traffic?

Also, what is considered 'decent' pagerank and decent amount of backlinks? Any feedback is much appreciated!

Forget about Alexa...it's a worthless metric for any purpose.

Are the backlinks any good?

Thus...

Are they diversified in the sense they come from different domains?
Are these domains actual websites or are they coming from splogs (Spam blogs), worthless forum links?

If they are from actual websites, are they coming from pages that have a combined topical relevancy, for example are they coming from pages on the subject of bird houses? or birds?

Do the pages linking to this domain have backlinks of their own?
Do these pages have page rank?
Are the links on these pages that link to your domain placed inline with the content? Not sidebars, footers.

Depending on the questions above this might be an interesting domain for you to purchase, again depending on the topical relevance of the pages that links to this domain and how you can monetize on that topic?

A few good backlinks can really help your rankings, so it really depends on the source of the backlinks, a decent amount of backlinks is therefor relative in my opinion.

if the domain name has been dropped then of course no more traffic... but the bakclinks remain... because the webmasters don't check to often their website for broken links

Alexa ranking is outdated, try compete.com,
and the backlinks msybe be disappear after a few weeks once Google update the serp.

If I were you, I'd forget about lousy domains and concentrate on getting good solid generic keywords.

alexa rank depends upon the traffic, i am sure that domain must be a parked name. is it?

Try Quantacast or Compete for traffic analysis. They are better at gauging US traffic and give you exact figures instead of a rank.

What Quantcast gives you isn't exact if there isn't a quantcast pixel in place, Compete just gives you estimations as well.

Thank you guys, very useful information. I looked up couple of domains that have a lot of backlinks/somewhat decent rank on alexa, but they didn't show on nether site (compete/quantacast).

So I shouldn't be even looking at the domains, that don't show up on compete or quanticast?

Thanks!

You shouldn't be looking at Compete or Quantcast, what you need to find out is if those backlinks are any good, not numbers but quality.

Damion makes a good point. A thousand links from DigitalPoint sigs, Digg profiles, ABCXYZ directories etc. aren't worth what a handful of links from in-context cites from any authority sites are.
