Humans in Space : Can't we all get along?

Everyday I wonder why so many people on this planet are so angry, upset, sad and want to fight with each other all the time.

Why cant we all just come together and join our resources, energy, thoughts and ideas for one common cause. Rather fight over our differences, we should really unite for the greater good of mankind.

What if Earth were in peril, an absolute, undeniable destruction only years away? Would that do it, would that cause all the nations to come together to stop the impending catastrophe or would they just find more things to fight about.

I say the Earth is in peril and the threat is unknown, but it does exist. There are so, so many ways that the Earth could be wiped out all at once. A solar flare, massive earth quakes, re-shift of the poles, WWIII, genocide, diseases, etc..etc..etc..
Why don't we have a planet wide space program.. I hate to sound geeky but something like a "Star Trek" like federation. I would sign up to be a space fleet member ASAP.. and I'm sure, millions of people world wide would do the same.

Our first mission as a United Human Group would be to set up human colonies somewhere away from Earth. I know people are talking about doing this to the moon but that is only a stepping stone and one that we need to hurry with. The Moon is not good enough, a solar flame could easily take out Earth and the Moon both with one good CME. We need to think about rouge asteroids in the Kuiper belt and other places farther away from Earth..

We live in an unsympathetic universe and we are breaking the odds being here in the first place, lets continue to beat the odds!

Someone should really start a website where people can pledge or sign up for the United Human Space Group. Would you sign up?

I just wish everyone would stop fighting and focus on the larger picture. The continued evolution and survival of the Human Race.

Good idea. Now all we need is a website, lots of money to spend on research, and informants in the major science organisations (NASA, CERN, etc) would probably be a good idea.

No because we already have enough useless and bloated organizations to go around - the UN. Humans as a whole are never going to be peaceful because, as the Bible says, the love of money is the root of all evil. Simply because words are noble and some organization is formed does not make it any less warlike than another. I think we need to quit kidding ourselves that some universal entity is going to somehow erase the vast differences that have existed for thousands of years between man.

Otherwise, they'll continue to cry "peace, peace" when there is none.

So what would you suggest? Just sitting idle as we watch our neighbors and each other tear ourselves up with words bombs and destruction? Or step up into the fight, decide which side we want to be on and fight for what we think is right? Or protest what you believe from home? Or just not think about it?
I think we can rise above all the hatred. We are all human, no black race, white race, middle eastern race, one race. the Human race.. That alone should be enough but it doesn't seem to be so why not find a common cause that we can all work towards? Just because other programs have not worked does not mean that they all will not, nobody has ever succeeded by quitting and we must continue to try.
Perhaps you are right, there will always be war, hatred and suffering, along with love, happiness and rejoice. Every shadow needs some light and every Yin has its Yang. But that doesn't mean we cant look towards the stars, and try to better ourselves, our home Earth, and our future.

Now that I think about it. For the first time in history there does seem to already exist one world institution that is bringing all the ideas and information of the world together..... THE INTERNET and MULTIMEDIA.. But I'm not really sure how that is bringing us together yet. So-far, it, as most things, goes both ways.

Nick once said, that Human are Humans they will fight they will love and they will laugh and they will cry. So there is nothing to do with space in it We can still go into space and have our emotional drama over there too

I believe that Humans should go to space and the critics who say we shouldn't. I don't know why

If they think there are supernatural powers that will get angry on us then I say that if there are supernatural powers who would not like this [Humans going into space] then they would not have let us invent the rockets and space shuttles.

And back to the topic. Yes greengambler I agree we should first of all forget our differences here and make a group. We need to sort out our existing problems and then unite and take some steps that can benefit the human race in future.

I wouldn't hesitate to vote for a World Government too atleast it will bring peace on the planet.

Ultimately, the only way to truly explore space is by doing it in unity, with combined resources. Whether this be man power, financial contributions or technological matters. It will have to be the one area where no color, race, religion, upbringing and social status counts. As long as these teams can work together in human understanding, knowing that in a genetic analysis we are all built of the same strands, we should be able to conquer.
I for one, an Austrian, living in the USA, having traveled more than fair share across the entire globe, firmly believe that we need to simply "grow up" and start acting a bit more like creations with a brain that's capable of evolving, growing and adapting. I'd immediately volunteer for a mission, to wherever it may take me.

I believe we are already on the way to forming a world unity organization....it is inevitable because of the urgent need to stop or at least curb the manmade destruction of our planet by the worldwide use of burning fossil fuels for energy. The seriously of this problem will become evident in the near future.

If we don't stop the manmade globalwarming problem first all the other hopes of mankind such as world peace and exploring space will never happen.

We can't get along because people have different wants and desires. One person's wants and desires can get in the way of another person's wants and desires. A conflict then arises.

The more similarly a group of people think and the more similar their wants and desires the less conflict. Contrary to popular belief it is sameness that is a strength, not diversity.

A planet wide space program would have to have people who think alike and have that particular desire. Currently, like herding cats. In addition, space programs cost a great deal of money and as you can see some groups of people have desires which put war ahead of space exploration.
