I think this is great news for .TV holders. Enom clearly has a marketing plan for the .tv extension. I think there will be a big push for the .tv extension and we will see things like lower registration fees, auctions of premium domains, better searching options for available .tv's etc... Read below:

Dear SearchingTV,

In an effort to enhance the portfolio of domain name-related products and services available to you, The .tv Corporation is pleased to announce that we have signed a service agreement with Demand Media to manage the administration of our customer’s domain names and customers. eNom, Inc., a Demand Media company, will be the direct provider of these domain name registrar services.

You will benefit from the full array of domain name registrar services andvalue-added products that eNom, a top 5 registrar, can provide. eNom's business model is built on a strong network of resellers and retail clientsworldwide, and a strong, loyal and successful customer base due to their high quality service and solid technology platform. Additionally, eNom and its parent company Demand Media have a vision that leverages domain names and new media with the goal of strengthening the positioning of the .tv Top Level Domain Name (TLD) as the place online for rich media. The transition will take place on December 12, 2006. This email provides important information about the transition. We will also send additional communications prior to the transition date to keep you informed.

Both companies will continue to be dedicated to our common goal: the commitment to putting customers first and you can be sure that eNom will work to ensure that you continue to receive outstanding customer service before, during, and after the administrative transition. Additionally, both companies are working to ensure that this process is as seamless to customers as possible.

Below is a selection of Frequently Asked Questions to help you understand the initial phase of this transition.

1.) Which company will be my new registrar?

eNom, one of the largest registrars in the domain industry, will be the newregistrar for current .tv Corporation for customers. For more information on eNom visit their Web page at www.enom.com.

2.) Will I still be able to log into my account to manage my domains?

Yes. Currently, you can continue to manage your domain registrations and other services at www.tv. When your account is transitioned to eNom, you will be able to manage your account online from their site. Links to their site will be provided on the www.tv homepage to provide you with access into your log in area with eNom. You will be able to use your existing username and password the first time you log in, at which time you will be prompted to change them.

3.) How will I be able to check my e-mail for this account? Will my e-mail messages be deleted?

E-mail messages that currently reside on The .tv Corporation’s webmail accounts will NOT be deleted. You will be able to log onto your webmail account at webmail.srilanka.tv. In addition to logging on at webmail.srilanka.tv, there will be a link on eNom's account management page to your webmail account. Please note that if you have used a client-based program such as Outlook to download e-mail messages from the webmail interface, you will have to maintain these messages if the program parameters are set to delete the mail from the server.

4.) Will the DNS records of my site be compromised with a move to a new registrar?

No, all nameserver records will remain unchanged.

5.) I currently use a credit card to auto-renew my domains and I saved my credit card information under my account info. Will the .tv Corporation send my credit card information to the new registrar?

As a measure to protect the security of your credit card information, The .tv Corporation will not release your credit card information to eNom. eNom will contact you based on the mailing address currently on your account with us and distribute notifications to renew your domain names. Please ensure your contact details are up to date.

6.) Will my user ID and/or password change for logging into my account?

Current usernames and passwords will be available for a one-time logon with eNom. After the initial log on, you will be prompted to enter a new username and password.

7.) When will I be able to log into my account with the new registrar?

The effective date of the transition is scheduled for December 12, 2006. Until that date you can continue to manage your registrations and the services you currently enjoy with the .tv Corporation as you are doing today. Links to eNom’s website will be provided on the .tv Corporation Web page.

8.) Will the same e-mail forwarding services be setup for my account with the new registrar?

Yes, all e-mail records that are currently on file at the .tv Corporation will be transferred to eNom.

9.) Will the same web-forwarding services be setup for my account with the new registrar?

Yes, all web-forwarding records that are currently on file at the .tv Corporation will be transferred to eNom.

10). Will my parked Web page (e.g. under construction page or for sale page) be impacted?

Your parked Web pages will look a little different in terms of layout and design, but the content will not change. Until December 12, you can continue to manage your page as you do today. After December 12, you can manage the content and the page by logging into your account at eNom and using the eNom domain control panel.

11.) Will the registration term for my domain be the same or will it change with the change in registrar?

No, your registration term will not change. eNom will contact you to renew your domain once the term is due for renewal. Please ensure that your contact data is up to date.

12.) Are there any current email features that will not be supported?

Yes, Group Lists and POP3 Events (retrieving email from a 3rd party mail server) will not be supported.

13.) Will I have to make any changes if I use my own or third-party DNS servers?

Yes, after December 12th, you will need to change the MX record for eachdo main using our email services. The correct setting will be:

@ MX 10 mxin.name-services.com

The current mail server will forward mail to the new server after the switch is made on December 12th to protect your mail from being lost in the transition. It is recommended you make your DNS changes on December 13th.

14.) I use the free Parking Page service templates on my domain ("Site Coming Soon", "Domain for Sale", or "Business Card"), will that still be available for me now, too?

Yes. You will log into your account and select your domain from your account. eNom’s Domain Control Panel will have a setting that will allow you to change or manage these Parking Pages. Should you have additional questions, please send an email to [email protected].

Well I think Verisign sucks but I think ENOM sucks even more I think I am done regging .tv domains anyway to focus on development even at lower premiums $150 a name adds up and if you don't develop or sell it can mean ahving to drop great domains

It was expected for some months and here it is, should be some few additional changes regarding the 'reselling' sector I guess, leading to a more aggressive communication strategy to better promote the extension, should be a WINNING combination. Welcome Enom.

I wonder how enom will charge to these premium .tv names? or www.tv will keep premium .tv names by itself ?

equity, you are one of the Forum Leaders of this forum, so I take what you write very seriously. Can you be more specific on why you feel this was such a bad move or why eNom sucks even more then www.tv? Why should we follow your lead and not reg any more .tvs?

No searching I am just saying personally I don't think ENOM is a great company I have had many friends who have had problems there, but all registrars have problems I would have rather seen Moniker take this over just my opinion. I meant stop regging to focus on development not that regging premiums will be bad through ENOM who knows maybe they will have a better pricing scheme but the deal is still between Tuvalu and Verisign so those payments need to be made. It will be interesting to see if premiums come down and especially pricing on LL and LLL then it will be good. But I don't think who runs the registry will have a bearing on seeing .tv sales on DNJ

I hear ya Equity, I am more excited about the possibility that eNom may throw some marketing dollars behind the extension which is something that I hope will now happen and be a benefit to all .tv name holders even if the pricing structure will be the same.

I wonder how much of this has to do with the success of .mobi and the relative failure of .tv.

They could learn a lot from the ,mobi marketeers! Maybe not too late.

I dont know about failure, from this side of the pond almost every ad on tv is accompanied by a .TV web site extension.

There is a massive shift in advertising revenue going on right now, away from the mainstream TV and into the internet. Mainstream TV itself is now under threat from streaming TV and this is simply the tip of the iceberg.

2 years ago, did you ever watch any TV on your PC? And if you did, how much more do you see nowadays?

More and more TV channels, means more and more .TV extensions.

Its just a matter of time friends, keep the faith

Agree here. And I might add that EVERY new tld registry can learn from the .mobi marketeers. All newer tld registries have failed in their obligation to successfully support and promote their extension. It takes bright people with initiative and vision. These are apparently rare company qualities when it comes to .info, .biz. The .US folks have done a little better - but still much room for improvement.

Exactly right Ian No failure and .mobi has done nothing of any significance yet( Not around long enough to be declared a success) ANd keep the .mobi hype in the .mobi sub forum . Thank you

Equity,!!!

If I read between the lines, am I right in thinking you dont like ENOM!!

And that Argos believes the exact opposite??

First time since I joined the forum that I have seen this take place.....

Another point, I have checked with SKG and neither of us have received an email from .TV about the handoff.....maybe not enough premiums regged?!

If you were going to register a premium, would you do it now while you can still get the special deal? Or would you wait till after 12/12 when eNom will take over?

What to do what to do!?!?

I strongly suggest everyone take a screenshot of your accounts just as a precautionary measure. Turnovers are not always smooth.

The devil is always in the details....

I will go on record to say this will definitely have a positive impact on the .TV domain name---as far as promoting the domain space. Demand media is trying to build one of the largest network of sites in the world. It is trying to become a "billion" MySpace's...It wants to become a advertising juggernaut.

Now the details. Why the hell would Network Solutions (A.K.A Verisign) agree to sell off .TV to Enom/Demand Media? I would think a better time to sell would be when the domain has reached critical mass awareness.

So I conclude the following: Either this email is a hoax and Verisign is not selling or Demand Media is planning on major spike in .TV awareness in the coming years and will pay Verisign a lot of money for the rights to manage the dot TV name space.

It has been confirmed to me by www.tv that it is happening so it's no hoax. I do agree that this will mean big things for the .tv extension and it will finally get the push it deserves.

Just registered a $2k/year premium for 3 years yesterday- can renewal costs for premiums go down/up in the future, was i naive to think that it was fixed? Thought the rep said renewal costs are 50% of initial listed pirce after initial registration period (where it's 70% off).

IMO- prices will come down, the premiums will get swiped leaving cheaper junk reg's to generate the volume.

[thanks for the advice to screencapture- just done]

Then we have our answer... Demand Media has done their homework and dot TV will become a household extension in the near term. I'm sure dot tv didn't come cheap!

btw: I saw an article in the USA today newspaper today about "The Venice Project". The guys who launched Kazaa and Skype are behind it. It's going to be a P2P social networking TV interactive site.
