I am still trying to figure out which of these domain extensions are considered best.

How Would You guys Rank these Extensions? 1-6, 1 being best.

.info .mobi .me .biz .us .ws

1. .me
2. .us
3. .info
4. .mobi
5. .biz
6. .ws

From very recent experience dealing with investors OUTSIDE the domainer community .ME was MUCH preferred over any of the others, the group I dealt with had never really heard of much other than .com, .net, .org but making it all about "ME" was a concept that fit well. I received a fairly decent amount of funding on a project that we could of acquired any of the other extensions for the domains we wanted but the brandability of .ME outshined all the rest and helped close the deal.

The iPhone and other "advanced" smartphones make .mobi obsolete... I really hate to say that but its true, I would of loved for it to succeed.

I am a believer in .US but not a big investor in it, probably should fix that.

1) .info - FAR above the other ones, just people should understand for what it is appropriate

2) .us

3) .me

1.) .us - this extension will see it's day I believe
2.).info - slowly overcoming it's past as an SLD (Scammer Level Domain ;) )
and starting to be taken more seriously.

I would DEFINITELY say keep an "eye out" for these:
...
.ME
.BIZ
.US
.INFO
...

P.S. And c'mon guys! ANYONE that says .ws still matters is smoking something funny!
Or invested too much in these! ;)

.us
.me
.ws
.info
.biz
.mobi

It kills me to put .ws so far down the list. I really like .ws, and once I get myself into a better financial situation, maybe I'll be an advocate for it or something. :P

I like .us, I think it's a good extension. I also like .me. I think they're both great for domain hacks using certain verbs.

.info is okay, but I always get turned away from it because of how much the second year is compared to the first year. I think it would be pretty dead if it weren't so cheap for the initial reg. Of all the .info domains I bought when I first jumped into this, I've only renewed one and I only intend to renew about two others - most people wouldn't even keep them, but I like them.

I don't like .biz or .mobi. I've never liked .mobi, and I've never had a reason to like .biz.

I guess the $34,000 I made on those other extensions was a hallucination or something.

in terms of the whole internet:
.me
.info
.mobi

for the US, I'd put .US before .info

completely agree with your order and assessment

per ME - I had dinner with the President of one of the leading ad conglomerates. He's not a domainer, but he thinks DOTME could become a major branding tool -- but "could" and "will" are quite a ways apart --

let's see how all this plays out in 2009

ME too. I guess the xxxxxx I made selling 12 dotme names was worthless too. I'll take that worthless anytime -- especially these days

Having said that, I love info

LOL - I was going to post something similar to the tune of $85,000 or so from less than 10 dot us transactions.

I really enjoy these kinds of threads.

well he's right .us are a waste of money, so send me your names and i'll reinburse your reg fee for the good but worthless names you all have.

I'm just doing my bit for the community.

I dont ever reveal the sales price of any names i sell so you wont notice anything differant.

:)

Have a good day fellow domainers. Cause i am :) :) :) :) :) theres 5 smilies for a reason :)

Convert them to x's and you'll know whi i'm happy

I could easily swap #1 and #2 depending on the name. Info is longer and international, but US is shorter and country specific.

I fully agree 100%. I think biz is reasonable extension to use but .info is popular and .us being a ccTLD could be very useful. Most top tier domainers have been hinting at .us being an extremely good growth market as cctlds grow in popularity.

In general I would rank them like this.

1.) INFO
2.) US
3.) BIZ
4.) MOBI
5.) ME
6.) WS

However certain domains fit in certain extensions better.

I would rather have Acne.info than Acne.us, but would rather have have Chicago.us than Chicago.info

.BIZ only works with certain types of keywords, and .MOBI generally only works with single premium keywords that are appropriate.

I see .ME as just another extension in the mix. We will see if it is has staying power.

.WS is worthless outside of the true ultra premium one worders (Free, Casino, Mortgage, etc)

I would rather have Chicago.info. NewYork.info sold for $70,000 and SanFrancisco.us sold for $6,000. Even adjusting for the difference in keyword punching power, a geo .info is worth more than a geo .us.

The market for a .info is 20 times bigger than the market for a .us. .info fits more keywords than a .us, the US is more .com centric than any other market which makes life difficult for the country code, historically there have been 2-3 times more .info sales over $10,000 than .us sales, there have been 30 .info sales reported in Feb 09 so far compared to 4 .us sales.

I deal with end users and can tell you from my experience Miami.us is more appealing to the average end user than Miami.info

Comparing NewYork.info to SanFrancisco.us doesn't make much sense. That is comparing apples and oranges.

If you are going to cherry pick sales then -

Nashville.us - $23K
Miami.us - $15K

Ohio.info - $12K
Houston.info - $17K

There are been plenty of GEO .US and .INFO sales in line with each other. However, I think .US (where appropriate) has stronger long term appeal for GEO than .INFO does.

I would take pretty much any premium keyword in .INFO though over .US, outside of GEO domains.

I like the .info's! At .99 it is easy to get a good ROI with a little bit of effort (developed)

The average end user in the US or outside the US? .info is more popular outside the US.

I understand New York is a better keyword but they are both 2 word large US cities. That's mandarin and tangerine rather than apple and orange.

I take your point here, I can see US cities and states fit well in .us. However, you have to admit that when I cherry picked, I showed a big disparity between .info and .us but when you cherry picked it was less pronounced. Also, with .us, you are tied to US geos so there are only a couple of hundred possible $XX,XXX keywords. If .us works better with US geo keywords, you are looking at a niche of a niche and .us shouldn't really be ranked a close second to .info on that basis, the reality is that globally it is a long way behind when all keywords are taken into account.
