OK, lets assume first that such an event happens, this is not a question of whether it does or not...that is too big a target for flames. Hypothetically, lets say OHA/Android connects itself with dotMobis or vice versa, what are some potential ways?

-dotMobi can adjust it's qualifications to officially include any sites developed with android...(or somehow incorporate the development tool into it's other tools....Im not technically savvy enough to elaborate here)

-android/OHA could "recommend" android apps (droidapps, droidlets) be developed on .mobi domains...along with any other of course

-dotMobi can join the OHA

-android based hardware can have a dotmobi directory or search as a default

and so on, and so forth... :imho:

Great questions, and I'm sure we'll have a great debate on them.

Can we first agree on one thing though: even if nobody does anything different from what they are doing now, i.e. assume no new info:

Doesn't .mobi win just by OHA being in existence (given the circumstances that we do know about)?
:?

I think whats good for mobile web use is good for .mobi. At the end of the day we need robust mobile web usage and robust recognition of what .mobi means to the end user - i.e. made for mobile from the ground up.

I'm not sure .mobi wins until it is mainstreamed. People need to know
that they can get quality sites on their mobiles and use them for that
to happen.

One thing is for sure, the mobile web is coming extremely fast
in one way or another. I and many others here hope it comes
in the form of .mobi :)

Absolutely, and more:

In four days (on Nov 12), serious webmasters can begin doing the amazing things that Google's CEO promised - in a sensible and efficient way.

The hardware enabled by OHA will not be available at all until the second half of 2008, and hence cannot be in mainstream usage until sometime in 2009.

As if that perfect combination wasn't good enough for mobi, over 200 stunning dictionary terms will have to be developed properly within the next six months - or they go back to MTLD, which would keep the original auction proceeds regardless - as per contract.

So in four days webmasters can start developing much more and much better mobile content, even though the proper hardware for it will not hit the mainstream until 2009!

And just when many early adopters are done with their first prototypes, they'll start hearing people referencing developed sites like taxi.mobi, homes.mobi, hotel.mobi, and a few hundred others.

What do you guys think may happen then?

Hey Arnie, for the avoidance of doubt can I assume the sold sign means you are sold on the inference above:

That the arrival of the new wave of open, cool content may well be associated with the entry of .mobi in the popular consciousness (and/or that many of the new breed of websites are likely to end in .mobi)?

...so any thoughts on the original questions?

Apologies for the mild thread hijack, just didn't want the naysayers to accuse us of basing our belief in .mobi on assumptions (not difficult to imagine - I have seen worse distortions of OPs before here).

I can try a response to the first question but it may turn into a technical discussion. Would that be OK?

Please, if you have the knowledge go for a technical discussion - but please give also a summary that us dummies can understand.

On the surface I see Android competing with Symbian, which is Nokia, and Nokia is the force behind the beginning of .Mobi. So from a business perspective .Mobi would be expected to have a bias toward Symbian. Are we seeing the start of another Apple / PC type war?
