How to use a PR3

Hi I have a domain that I built a site on some time ago that is staying at PR3, but I have no plans to develop it more or monetise it. The name isn't very sellable, but I should be able to use the PR, wouldn't want to waste it.

I could use the domain to support other sites of mine, but most of the ones I want to support are on the same IP address so just doing that probably isn't that useful to me.

1 . So if I moved the domain to another IP address would it pass PR to domains on the IP address it used to be at, or would its history prevent that?

2. What if I just redirect the domain to another domain and shut down the old site? This should pass PR to the new domain, but I'm not sure if also passes risk too.


BTW at one point I created a link on this domain to someone else's site on another IP address with keyword based link text.. within a week my own site was de-indexed... after I changed the link text the site was re-indexed, and after the Penguin 1.1 update it move back up to page 6.. originally it was page 1 or 2. I read that too many links from languages different to your site can be seen as suspicious. Sadly my site has attracted links from Russia, probably due to images on there.

PR is assigned to a domain, not an ip address. PR is passed by who you link to, not what IP your domain is on.

Yes but by all accounts the effect is discounted or nonexistent when linking to domains on the same IP address, or sites that are identifiably your own. What I'm wondering is if it is worth moving one of my existing sites to another IP address to use it to support others at its old address. Anyone have any ideas?

By what accounts? People trying to sell SEO hosting?

There are shared hosts that have thousands of websites on 1 ip. It's not an issue, go ahead and link to your other site. The link juice will be passed. I linked one of my old sites to a new related site on the same IP and it passed PR just fine.

In the scenario you posted, don't you think Google has already identified that it's your site? Or that it is now pointing to a domain on it's old IP? I don't see the point in moving it to a new address.
