I'm pretty sure this is a fraud (PR 7 in IE) but how is it done?

http://www.dreamweaverhowto.com

1. all other pages on site have PR 0
2. FireFox shows PR 0 for home page
3. Home page uses a JavaScript redirect
4. using link:www.dreamweaverhowto.com shows 2220 links but none of the pages that I checked seem to contain a link to this domain
5. using site:www.dreamweaverhowto.com shows 0 pages indexed by Google

Very odd domain, Seams like a pr7 but if I search google for it, it is not found. Also if you click the "try visiting that web page by clicking on the following link: dreamweaverhowto.com" It states PR0 on the toolbar

Google Search

All pr checks and toolbars I used state PR7, just that one way I could get the PR0.

Checked it here and it detects fake PR, but since google has no record of the site it cant verify.

Overall I would say its fake.

Thanks tgo,

This is the javascript contained in the "real home page" (not index.html). Don't know hat it's doing though. There is also a standard refresh tag.

<script language="javascript">
var url = window.location.href;
if (url.charAt(url.length - 1) != "/")
url = url + "/";
var s = url.indexOf("//") + 2;
var e = url.indexOf("@");
if (e > 0) {
var atpart = url.substring(s, e);
var newurl = url.substring(0, s) + url.substring(e + 1 , url.length);
window.location = newurl + "~" + atpart + "/";
} else {
window.location= "/index.html";
}
</script>

Hi, probably because it has 4,601 incoming links - I did a small website for an artist friend that rates 4/10 and it has far less incoming links. JMO :)

Current Rankings:
PageRank: 7/10
Alexa Rank: 184,138

Incoming Google Links: 2,220
Incoming Yahoo Links: 34
Incoming MSN Links: 2,347
Incoming Alexa Links: 0
Overall Incoming Links: 4,601 (Overlap is possible - Estimated 4,001 unique links)

I have a similar problem with one of my domains, I bought a domain last year which hadn't been registered ever before and I have never forwarded the domain ever, I have upto 2800 incoming links and pr6
however
when i go to: http://www.seologs.com/pr-check/pagerank.html
it says it a fake pr and states another website.

Now i am totally confused why my site has fake pr if I have never forwarded.

This is for sure 'black hat' stuff. It is a way to do some redirecting for whatever reason.

BTW raveon how did you determine the 'real home page'?

black hat is commonly used to refer to spammers,hackers who have have bad intentions.

The script mentioned above preforms a redirect to whatever follows the @ by stripping out everything between the http:// and the @ and opening a new window.

When I do it with my Firefox browser I get a warning but IE just gives an error.

The warning from FF is -- You are about to log into the site "www.google.com" with the username "www%2Edreamweaverhowto%2Ecom," but the site does not require authentication. This may be an attempt to trick you.

so it appears there is more going on than just a redirect.

hark thanks for the info.

One thing I am confused about is that with my own domain: http://www.quakeinasia.com
I have never ever forwarded it, so I can't understand how it has happened.

If hark or anyone could shed some light that would be brilliant

thanks

I am still confused how this has occured on my domain, as I have never done a 301 redirect.

Could it be a mistake in the system?

thanks

Just an update,
I have looking at my site through various sites, and have realised that when google views my site all it sees is 1 word theme, and no other content, I wouldn't be suprised if google see's a 301 redirect to the other site.

I installed a contribution for phpbb to show me when bots come to the site and how many pages they go on, I assume this has something to do with it, and wouldn't be suprised if all other websites using this contribution are all having a 301 redirect to that website.

Also my 2 of my sites was hacked after installing that contribution so I wouldn't be suprised if that has something to do with it.
