I looked at .tel it is an eXtreme gimmick....1 in 100,000 chance it will catch on...

And that is IF they have the #1 promoter on their A game every minute for the next 3 years...which is the minimum to sell this crazy idea to anyone, let alone a world where the economy is in the tanks....

Someone said this would be like .mobi .tel Very likely to be MUCH worse than .mobi

Currently useless and likely to be worth even less....

I am not saying it is impossible, as there have been worse ideas that caught on....Maybe AT&T might want to absorb the entire extension if it is moderately successful, it's possible, but not good odds...

Quite honestly, I can't see this being a big hit with domainers.
1- you can't "park" a .tel
2- you can't place ads on a .tel
3- you can't "develop" a .tel

Then it is very litle you can use a .tel domain for.

Why compare it to other TLD's. This is something very different so cannot be compared to a .mobi or .com etc. Not sure why so many people are. It's difficult to see how well it will be accepted until it's been released to the public at large in March, so anything else is speculation (which is all good, but no one can say it will definitely fly or fail yet). In IMHP, it will be embraced more by business before general public at the start. It's about time something like this was introduced whether you love it or hate it and it cannot be compared to Facebook and other closed sites, this is far better for finding contact information because you don't need to be a member of such a closed site or accept terms and conditions and worry such sites own your information- .tel does not.
Only reservation I have at the moment, is if a private person wants to hide some of their contact info and only allow friends to see it, that may mean that their friend needs to buy a .tel as well to see this info...if anyone knows what the deal is with this please let me know.:santa:

:hehe: Some folks have been saying that social sites like facebook is now becoming a good place to find peoples contact info, but my point is that you still need to join the site and they also are able to control your information, in fact who's to stop them selling it if they wanted, to a third party. With .tel, although there are restrictions to it's format, the owner has full control of their information not telnic or anyone else. Also, a person can type a .tel address straight into the browser without having to join up and have their information owned. :imho:
