How to sell to end-users?

Hello all,

Can someone explain the best strategy for selling a domain to an end-user, rather than another domainer? (Or point me to a relevant thread.) My example is this: I just bought the domain Recarpeting (.) com. If I search Google for carpet installation, carpets, rugs, carpet tools, flooring, etc, I will find a lot of established websites owned by people in the carpet industry. Are these the people I should be contacting? If so, how do I convince them they need another domain, when they already have a website? How should such an email be worded to get them interested? (anyone have successful examples or templates?). How do I get my message through to the right person within a company, so it doesn't get treated as spam by a sales employee?

Also, what is the best way to negotiate a sale price, if I'm contacting several companies? Should I just list the domain on eBay and point them to the listing? Or should I try to start an offer/counteroffer discussion with each company individually? Is it better to quote an asking price in the initial email, or just invite them to make an offer?

Please let me know if there's a tutorial explaining all this...

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

The answer to your questions is on this forum. Why don't you start by stop being lazy and doing some research like we all had to do. If you're not willing to do that then this industry isn't for you.

I've done quite a bit of reading, including the Stickies at the top of this forum, and of course I plan to read some more. One of the common themes I found was "ASK, ASK, ASK!!", so that's what I'm doing. Rather than being lazy, I intended this thread as a useful place for people to share links and advice for the benefit of all, adding to the advice that's already here. If that's not the spirit of a newbie forum, I apologise for my misconception... meanwhile I'll go and read some more

Yeah, actually I am also curious. I will not call my self a domainer but to know how it works still a good knowledge and may come handy someday.

Thanks zoki.

^ maybe ... point is to NOT be cybersquotter ... and be polite ... try to think like you would be buyer ... would you buy something from someone who told you that "your domain (which you developed) is bad and i have better" ?
Another point would be to check is that TM ?

There is no simple answer to that, but on other side what are you loosing when you try it ... reputation/ domain
