How to make a transaction without Escrow services

hi,

i'm sorry if it this one has already been answered but i am with little time to dig more on this.

until now i have been buying and selling domains throw ebay, sedo and the likes.

now i got an opportunity to buy a domain from and end-user that i was interested in for a low $xxx figure.

because of the low buy value, using services like escrow.com or sedo.com escrow service, the minimum fees become in percentage relevant to the total amount. ok, i know that we could be talking about penauts here but i'm very controlled with my spendings and if i can spare a few bucks i will.

so, my question is: how do you make these kind of sales/buys? do you pay by paypal and then hope that the buyer/seller transfers the domain to you? how do you protect from the other party not respecting their part on the deal?

thanks in advance for your advices,

regards,
tonecas

The real question is who is the person you are buying from?

If they are US Based and not a Domainer - I dont have a problem sending money either via paypal, check, or wire - as long as I have their contact information which can be verified (Phone, Email, ect).

I would only use escrow if the owner is out of the US or unverifiable - I wont risk my money on a "too good to be true" deal.

Thank you Spade

Yes, it is an end-user from US and i have the phone and email right.

However, i'm not from US :)
Maybe the seller should be with more caution than i

Anyway, having the phone/email helps in asking for a refund in case of the seller does not transfer the domain to me. Is that it?

Because then Paypal or whatever means i use can contact the other party and verify what happen. Looking from another angle, if i were dishonest i could pay, receive the domain and then ask for a refund stating that i didn't receive the product - domain - that i bought... So, it makes sense that both parties have real contacts from each other.

Its more of a situation when you know who the buyer is - there is a substantial lessening of risk. Not that it covers you - but frankly if a Seller didnt follow through - I would simply call constantly until they did - lol.
