Anybody know why so many ebay domain name listings have "2-3-4-5" in the title? Must get more views but why?

What do you do to get more visitors to your ebay domain sales?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

promote it on forums that allows external auctions, blog about it.

Thanks. I'll do that. But what about in the title of the listing itself? I see that a lot of people put "2-3-4-5". Others put "4-5-6" and "NR" (No Reserve), etc. I'm wondering what people here have found works best in the listing title.

I was going to just put "domain name" after the name. But there's room for more terms if it would increase views.

They do it for search results, if you search for "4 letter domains", you will get the listing, if you search for "5 letter domains" you also get the same listing.

Yep and it's also against eBay's TOS. If someone is selling "PaperTowelHolders.com" and they put "LLLL.com" or "3-letter" or "LLLL" in the title then it is "keyword spamming". It is unethical and costs buyers alot of time because they have to sort through all that crap that isn't what they originally searched for.

So if anyone here is doing eBay auction titles like that... knock it off! :td: :notme: 8-X

The best way I can think of is keyword spamming... VERY effective but eBay might ban you so do this with caution that you might lose your account.

Put in a photo of a hot girl.
Really, at least it will get a lot of guys to take a look.

Please do NOT keyword spam, it hurts everybody who is trying to sell on eBay by discouraging buyers. A three letter .com buyer is not interested in a five letter .net.

Do use keywords that describe the domain: "Domain Name", "LLLL" (if it is) "Premium", number of letters. INCLUDE THE DOMAIN IN THE TITLE.

There is a nasty change that has recently happened on eBay. All your listings either get better or worse exposure based on your feedback and other factors. To get the best placement you have to have at least either 3 or 10 star (DSR) feedback ratings (currently it is not clear which) in each of the 4 categories in the previous month. Since many customers do not leave star (DSR) ratings at all, the occasional eBay seller is put at a great disadvantage.

Ebay is trying to please huge companies such as buy.com, the result is that many long time sellers are leaving. The domain market on eBay may survive, but it is already flooded with junk-domain sellers.

Great way to look at it. Reps added.
I laughed when I read about the girl pic thing. I never look at an auction just to see the pics. But the more I read about this, the more it made sense. The 2 words known by many: sex sells.

Edit: They won't let me rep you :(
