I need to recover some quite valueable domains that I own, they have unfortunately gone into redemption because of a stuff up by cheap registra.
It is essential that these domains are not lost to domain name auction or back order. Can you beat these services and get your names back, or would the best option be to use some of there services? Anyone got any ideas or past experiences.

If the domains are valueable - pay the backorder. its the only sure fire way to get them back, If they go to auction or backorder, you may not get them or even be able to afford to get them. Even though it hurts, pay the backorder! (if they are good) if not... just re-register them when they become available.

If I pay for a back orders, are you sure no one else can register the domains?

No. The name could be caught by someone else or a drop registrar.
Even if you place a backorder with pool, snap, and enom and one of them manages to get the name back there is still a risk that you will enter a private auction with other people. If the name is attractive other people may want to catch it. Also, there are bidders with deep pockets at the drop auctions and they can drive the prices high.

IMO you should not take any chances and pay the redemption fee while you still can. It may cost more than a successful backorder but if you let the name drop the outcome is uncertain.

Yes pay the redemption fee, I did not think of that, or did I just put that out of my mind after the initial shock of reading the registras fine print explaining how much they charge for this wonderful service. I did use a backorder service once and was dissapointed when it totally failed to register the domain.

Do you know if expired domains are available in an auction before they are available to register normally and is there any way that I can check if someone has backordered my domains.

It depends on the registrar. Some registrars like godaddy, network solutions and others do auction their names. Others will let them expire.
Normally names are auctioned upon expiry and before redemption so I assume this name is going to drop after the usual redemption period.

Thanks sdsinc, that gives me some chance of recovery then. So the domains can not be put in any auction by the registra or backordered by anyone now that are in redemption, is that right?
