I just noticed that newyork.clothing is a buy now 10,000USD on Sedo. How did this person obtain a name like this? Are people getting them on auctions for cheap, preordering and bidding or what? Where can you get quality new tlds?

All the good .clothing say taken on GD. Did the landrush gates open and squatters jump on them or are most of them won through auctions?

He must have preregistered his name with a registrar. But now .Guru/.Bike/.Ventures/.Clothing are all General Availability so you can preregister in the upcoming new gTLDs or buy a few top quality domains from the existing ones.

Some of best single keyword .Guru/.Bike/.Ventures/.Clothing are available for a steal on Sedo and Flippa. Many people are still confused about new gTLDs. Their inaction will cost them opportunity when they see these very domains going at sky high prices once the ball is set rolling.

DNJournal already reported the sale of Spiritual.Guru at $2177. Even at that price, it's a steal.

This is exactly why this new TLD roll-outs are nothing but a money-making racket. They were supposed to be created for end-users to use because the previous TLDs are all taken. So now, the same guys who siphoned the previous TLDs are now squatting on the new TLDs.

Nothing has changed.

On Ebay you'll see plenty of crap names listed with 7-figure BINs.

The holder of newyork.clothing can ask $10000 for his domain. But it's very unlikely to sell at all, especially at this price.
As an end user I would rather wait for .nyc and try to grab clothing.nyc.

Now that we are in the early stages, we are going to see a couple reported sales (from one domainer to another).
Then - poof - the tulipmania will end and domainers will move on to another extension.

Where can you get quality new tlds?

If you have the $ you launch your own TLD, hype it up, arrange a few fake aftermarket sales, then put up renewal fees when you can't meet the running costs, then go broke. As long as you paid yourself a huge salary in the launch phase you come out ahead. All you need is customers and that means eager domainers who don't ask questions.
