How the MoD hid the hunt for UFOs

The Ministry of Defence went to extraordinary lengths to cover up its true involvement in investigating UFOs, according to secret documents revealed under the Freedom of Information Act. The files show that officials attempted to expunge information from documents released to the Public Records Office under the "30-year rule" that would have revealed the extent of the MoD's interest in UFO sightings. In particular, the ministry wanted to cover up the operation of a secret unit dedicated to UFO investigations within the Defence Intelligence Staff. UFO conspiracy theorists have likened the unit, called DI55, to a sort of "Men in Black" agency for defending the Earth against invasion but the released documents show this is far from the truth. One 1995 memo from DI55 to the MoD's public "UFO desk" said: "I have several books at home that describe our supposed role of 'defender of the Earth against the alien menace' - it is light years from the truth!"

The files were made public following FOI requests by David Clarke, a lecturer in journalism at Sheffield Hallam University and his colleague Andy Roberts. "These documents don't tell us anything about UFOs but they do show how desperate the MoD have been to conceal the interest which the intelligence services had in the subject," said Dr Clarke. The trail begins with a request, in 1976, from a UFO enthusiast called Julian Hennessy for access to the MoD's records on UFO sightings. A note from the UFO desk to the MoD's head of security on March 23 shows that officials intended to refuse him access on the grounds that the files contain confidential information and "very little of value to a serious scientific investigator".

I'd seen this and forgot to follow up on it.. thanks for reminding me.

What they are, I'm not sure but.. as a journalistic stringer, my mom was one of the first to a crash site in South Florida once in the early 1950's (I believe that's correct). The craft was apparently what we'd describe now as shaped like the Stealth configuration aircraft.. her camera was confiscated and she was instructed not to talk about the incident. Could be government test craft of some sort.

I believe there was a documentary here in the UK some time back actually stating facts about UFO's and how the whole thing was stirred up to cover stealth, test and / or spy flights over russia, the USA etc.

The US stirred it up so when an odd shaped aircraft flew overhead, they thought it was from space :hehe: (Could be the other way round though, I dunno, long time ago now)

The military tend to allow people to beleive things are possible UFO sightings to stop them being inquisitive about what they really are or lead them in the wrong direction.

For example 1 hotbed of UFO sighhtings in the US was Nevada and near area 51 which up until a some years back was a very secretive military test ground. Aircraft such as the stealth bomber/fighter were developed and tested there. To anyone who saw that when it was being developed it looked nothing like any other aircraft they had seen so alot automatically assumed it was a UFO (and of course it actually is as UFO doesnt necessarily mean an aircraft from out of this world, it just means an aircraft you cannot identiy).

I remember seeing a documentary about area 51 and the documentary team drove within a few miles of the base and they were very quickly followed by security personel. So even tho it is no longer used it is still very secure.

Speaking of the stealth bomber, I was at an airshow some years back. The stealth was doing a fly by. As it flew over us, one of its wings broke off. The stealth broke into 3 or 4 pieces. I actually got to witness the entire thing, right in front of me. It actually crashed into a house right near Martain State Airport, in Maryland. The military was quick to respond. They wouldnt let anyone within 20 miles of the crash. They closed the airshow, and MADE everyone leave.

Sorry for being so off topic, I just thought it would be neat to share.

Whats really weird, is when I was typing that; a website just poped up in place of NP's that was about UFO's, I dont see any links on this page that would have directed me to that. It wasnt a seperate browser, it was on the same browser I had opened for namepros. Not sure if it was a coinsidence or what.

Just one question. It has been in my mind since I first saw this UFO's programs on TV.

Why is it that the UFO's are only seen in US, UK.

No one sees them in India. Are the aliens only interested in US citizens? :D

Or is it that the media over here is not bringing out the news like this one to the public.
