.tv How Safe Is Your Registrar?

Just wondered what would happen if any of the registrars went out of business.

Does anyone know if there is a procedure in place to protect owners of .TV domains should the wheels fall off any of the registrar companies.

Is there a precedent, has this ever happened?


I suppose the biggest question for anyone who has very valuable, or numerous names, is this:

But in many ways, I wish I'd not asked the question. That was SCARY reading.

The tale of Registerfly is abd enough, but the response by ICANN was even scarier for anyone who owns a .TV

The line that hit hardest was...

'ICANN also convinced several top-level domain registries who administer the .com, .net, .biz and .info namespaces, including VeriSign, NeuStar and Afilias to restrict pending-expiration Registerfly domains into a so-called “Server-Delete-Prohibited” status. ICANN stated, “This will prevent them from being deleted from the registry and becoming available for re-registration by others."

What happened to the .TV names?

I'm not sure if registerfly had the capability to register .tv's, I personally did not use them.
There may be others here who did and may be able to confirm if they did reg .tv's and what happened to them.

Registerfly is just a reseller (i think).

If you're domains under enom reseller (for example), your main reseller or enom will take over.

Enom is in the business for more than 10 years already. If your concern is dissolving a company, Netsol still exist. I don't recommend them but they are here to stay.

maybe they are now but they wernt when they crashed. they were a fully accredited registrar.

i remember a lot of domainers used them becasue they were cheap. turns out that cheap wasnt very cheap afterall. this is why i wont touch a domain that isnt with a serious registrar.
