Number of domains: 79

source: ads on developed part of domains.

I have 8 now, all .com and I am three months old now in domaining. Had around 30 at the start of march, mostly mistakes in handregs so had to grace delete some, sold some in bargains( sold three 3L.ios for a loss) and had a couple of mid xxx sales so got my money back plus a profit of low xxx. I havent regd or bought any new domain in march. I have my focus now on expiry and closeouts, Hopefully I will find some good names soon.

Around 2500 - %90 hand registrations

Down this year from 400 to 300ish.

Dropped a fair amount of .info due to no interest.
Dropped a few .co.uk & .in due to no interest
Dropped all .credit due to ridiculous renewal fees
Dropped quite a few other ngtlds - I'm still a fan of these but I went a bit over the top.

I have maybe 40 domains. Sell one or two a year. Have one XXXX sale a year on average so always in profit. Spend hardly any time domaining but what I do I enjoy. Perfect for me as I don't want it to become a chore or boring. Would be nice to expand to maybe 100 names but who has the time.

So, out of the approximately 2,700 domains listed, how many have you sold last year?

What marketplaces are you listing with?

And which marketplace(s) has/have brought you most sales?

My last year's average was around 1200-1300 .coms

Sold around 35 names for about $150K before commissions. So my sell through was close to 3%.

Marketplaces: Afternic, inbound, Sedo broker for 1 name, Brandroot (before it went completely dead about 7-8 months ago), Brandpa, Brandbucket (also have been dead for about 7 months now).

For this year, most important working venues are inbound, Afternic and Brandpa.

Put the same price, imo.

As soon as buyer sees second price, he starts to look for the third one and also starts to question the value of the name for the price.

I don't list them.
ParkingCrew and Bodis are enough for me.

And no any special software.

About 20% are hand regs and the rest are expired or closeout domains - except for a few I bought here on NP.

I am almost at 300 but I find that too many to properly manage. For much of my time I was around 140 and find that a nice number for me. I plan to let some drop and hopefully sell some more and hope to be maybe around 240 by end of 2019.

I get a tiny amount of revenue from a couple I have developed, but less than $20 most months in total across several sites.

Currently sitting on around 30 domains now. Used to have hundreds but let them drop. Trying to focus on long term quality with a buy and hold approach. My goal is to add a few quality domains each week and invest for the long term.

Why is it much time to manage?
The simple and truthful answer probably is that I am old and inefficient :xf.eek:

But let me expand a little. I like to analyze and for each domain I consider I typically look at many factors including who would be the categories of end users, what value proposition would this name have for them, what are the close competitors, what prior similar sales (both in niche and in extension) have their been, search and advertiser statistics, automated appraisals, trends, was it held before, did it have an operating website or abuse if it was, etc. (some of my considerations in this post).

I consider carefully probably 5 to 10 names for every one I hold. Also, while I register for multiple years a few well over half of my names I only try for a single year so if my portfolio is 300 held, at least 160 are new each year, and for those 160 I analyze 800 to 1600 possibilities. It is just me :xf.wink:.

Also, I like to do a written document of key facts for each domain, and share a portion of that on marketplace listings. I am not sure if this works, it may even be negative, but it is what I do.

I plan to be more efficient, but right now I use a combination of a spreadsheet, text documents and written notes for all of this information. Not efficient! :xf.sick:

I also find the marketplace interfaces not as efficient as they could be. I find it easy and fast to put domain names up on Undeveloped, but between their verification TXT record, adding the domains, doing the category and description, and then changing the category if I hate the picture they put with the one I chose as the primary, I find Sedo really time consuming. Afternic I find a little better, but still takes time. I am surprised how many names I want to add someone has left in Afternic so I have to go through support to get them taken down so I can add them. Anyway, I rant....

But the story of why I can I think comfortably only handle less than 200 in my portfolio. Thanks for asking!

I had over 600+, but now I'm around 250..... I want to focus on quality and also development.
I would love to make some good sales and bring my portfolio down to 100.

The problem with a smaller portfolio is that there will be fewer sales...

I had only four sales in 2018 for a total of 43K (2 x $X,XXX, 2 x $XX,XXX), but from March to September there were no sales at all. No sales = no cash flow = no good buys == no momentum.

Just over 1000...culled way down from many more than that over the last 3 years or so.

Anything that was a non com that wasn't super premium was sold/dropped so now most of portfolio (97%) are coms.

My current limit is a max of 1500 providing I can find good ones at a good value. Not EVER going the volume rate/method again...only names that are REALLY good, great, premium or super premium from now on.

Put the same price, imo.

As soon as buyer sees second price, he starts to look for the third one and also starts to question the value of the name for the price.

I agree with this. I have done this in the past and it leads to more buyer confusion than anything.

If a buyer contacts you directly though it is alright to offer to pass on some of the commission savings.
That works for me to help close deals.

If I wanted you to show me your 7+ years old, less than 12 letters, registered in namesilo, 3+ months left to expire dot com domains, it would take hours for you create a list for me from your 2k - 6k domains.

Another post on this thread might support my theory:

The more domains - the more time and health you must burn... up to level where personal life will disappear at all.

However creating and updating an excel table for 2k+ domains would take lots of time. Also opening a big excel file and keeping it open for hours every day, would need a powerful computer with good processing power. I too would avoid software.

I nailed my first sale after 7 months into domaining. Sales will come provided you list your names in marketplaces at a good price

During my first domain years I had 250-500 domains...

I have been domaining for 1 month now, and have 30 .com and plan to stay focused on .com only for now. I currently spend 30 mins a day domaining and plan to reininvest 50% of any sales going forward.

43k on 150 names is great, provided your cost per name is in xx to low xxx and it did involve extensive outbound
