How much does a mum's net ban affect a domain name's value

I have been looking through my unused domains for a name to use with a teamspeak server site. I noticed that I still own FoxyTalk.com, and I thought that would be a good name to use. I've owned it for a few years, never used it, and it's been parked in a registrar's monetisation programme for two or three years. I typed the URL into my browser, and got a blocked message. I was using free WiFi of course, and I understand that mum's net is used to verify that the name is family friendly. Now I can probably appeal the ban, but is it really worth it? Foxy seems to have a whole mix of associations, so I decided to use a sub-directory on another domain of mine. That will save me money.

Suppose I decide to sell the name - should I try to clear the block, or promote it as a feature for an adult site?

Mum's net was started in the UK as an advice and discussion site for parents. They started a blacklist of websites to help parents to protect children from sites they considered to be undesirable. Their list has been adopted by quite a few public WiFi providers. As a broad concept, I think it's a good thing. You don't want a bunch of sub-teen kids giggleing over pornography in the local McDonalds. On the other hand, it's annoying if a business man in a motorway service station can't access some commercial sites. They ban Yahoo and Bing for example.

One of my concerns is that if I move Foxy Talk on a shared hosting plan, then mum's net may consider the IP to be offensive, and I'll get a block for a whole bunch of sites. I might write to them and appeal the ban, and then put a holding page on the name.

There are plenty of uses that are non-adult, like firefox or actual fox animals, or find a podcaster with the first/last name fox. It has lovely alliteration. The site comes up fine for me so it's up to your buyer to do their research, the wider the appeal the easier to sell so I wouldn't box yourself into just adult. Maybe lifting the ban is a simple email, showing you're non-adult?

Moving to shared hosting and getting all your sites banned due to shared IP, I would like to know the answer as well, I have a NN ccTLD that was p0rn once. Actually, if that is true then it doesn't seem it would matter if it's you that is banned or not, it could be 1000 users on your IP, there's bound to be some sketchy sites already.

I think I will write to them. I'm sympathetic to the concept - it's the application that can be controversial in some cases. I'm one of the people that is saddened by the fact that pornographers failed to use meta tags to allow filtering of their sites. If people don't want to watch porn, then there should be a simple way for surfers to filter it. Alternatively if they are looking for porn, then there should be a simple way to filter out non-porn sites.

I believe the offending term isn't "fox" but "Foxy" which has adult/sexual connotations.

I guess you are right anantj, it seems that they don't bother to look at the site, but just go by the name.
I guess I don't have a hope of turning my foxyhoes.com name into a farming site then.
