obviously if your going to develope its better for a longer time. Maybe a few years. But if your looking for a quick turn around should you just register a dot com for a year or two? - new to this if this had been covered I am sorry. Was wondering though as I had just been doing standard two year registrations with my purchases.

One year minimizes your cost. Why pay for the next owner's renewal if its a year out? Even if you are developing I would only register for a year at a time. Plans change and its nice to minimize your risk in case your plans change.

Yup I definitely agree if you are looking for turn-around then the less is best. If you plan to develop then again 1 year is good until you see where you are going. At the end of the year if you figure that it is the one you want to keep then renew for as long as you think it is feasible for you to be in that busienss.

Again if it doesn't go then you can get rid of it at the end of a year.

For resale, one or two years at the most. However, if it's a super premium name the extra years can be good insurance against forgetting to renew and losing it.

If developing or just putting up a mini site, the longer reg does show some commitment and may get you higher rankings in SEO according to some sources.
