hi,

i am waiting for transfers... i bought some domains that were reg`d at different registrars and transfered them to GD and in my account is showing "Accept transfer at current registrar"

id like to know if there is an exact time to wait the other registrars accept the transfer or if it the time can be different even if the names r in the same registrar... i assume the time is the same for domains reg`d in the same registrar

thank u all in advance,
bricio

A transfer within godaddy can take as soon as a couple of minutes.
I've been waiting for someone to transfer a domain out of godaddy and it's been taking weeks for some unknown reason.

Transfers usually take a few days between registrars. If you are transferring from GD resellers, remember their bs 60 day rule on changes like pushes as that will prevent you transferring to your regular GD account.

A few registrars auto-approve transfer outs, but most don't meaning you may be left waiting upwards of 5 days.

A way to speed things up is look for emails from the "losing" registrar that asks whether you approve the transfer out ... not all registrars send out such emails, but those that do greatly speeds things up; saves themselves the hassle of dealing with customer complaints asking why their transfer out seems stuck.

And finally, it often comes down either waiting 5 or so days or emailing the losing registrar and requesting them to ACK (approve) the transfer out.

On a related note, it's important when requesting a transfer that the domain is actually unlocked - sometimes the status shown at a registrar may not reflect reality ... best to check the master whois of the respective TLD registry the domain is part of ... ie. for .com and .net, check:

http://registrar.verisign-grs.com/whois/

If the status says anything other than "ok", it may not transfer - though understand that under EPP (the new registry protocol) some other statuses will still allow for transfer out. A status that most likely won't though is "clientTransferProhibited" - so if you see that status, be sure to unlock the domain (or do so again), then wait 15 minutes and check the status again.

Lastly, the above applies to many of the more common gTLDs like .com, .net, and .org, since many ccTLDs have extremely differing rules on registrar transfers.
