Why would you want to do that, rather than a regular transfer ? Dropping a name is dangerous, unless it is garbage and you are sure nobody will want it. But then why are you holding a bad name ? :xf.wink:

The answer is that it depends, some registrars allow you to delete the name at once so that it becomes available to register again, but most of the time they will just send it to early redemption (in case you change your mind).

About 26 domains are one word brandable/premium domains of new gTLD.

The renewal charges of new gTLD are huge compare to .com's and I can't afford to renew all by paying huge price. If I register as a new domain I have to pay below $10.

As per my estimate new gTLD getting popularity in Malaysia and China.

I want to hold few domains and try my luck for next one/two years.

Two thoughts here:
  • If the names are expensive to hold, then it's less likely that somebody will want to buy them. You have held about 26 domains for a year already. Have you got any inquiries or sales that make you confident you will eventually sell any ?
  • If the names drop, the registry could reclassify them as premium registration fee and premium renewal. Or the registry could possibly keep the names for itself, rather than make them available for registration again. It has happened in some extensions.

I am planning to drop maximum domains.

That’s what I doubt "the registry could reclassify them as premium registration fee and premium renewal. Or the registry could possibly keep the names for itself"

Can't I go to other registry and buy the same domain with a normal price?

Registry and registrar are different things. Registrar is the company you make payment to register a domain. Registry is the owner of that extension or TLD. You can think registrar as a retailer and registry as a wholesaler. There is only one registry of a particular TLD and there are many registrars who sell domain registration right one-by-one in that particular TLD.

If wholesaler makes a change in price, all retailers will adapt to the new price. So the answer is no.

Thanks! Now got it.
