How long before I can reg this domain??

Hey Everyone,

I'm trying to find out how long before I can register this domain name I saw the other day.

It gives the following info on GoDaddy:

Registry Status: redemptionPeriod

See Underlying Registry Data (Linked)

I click the link and then it gives this:

Domain Name: (thedomainnameiwant)
Registrar: GODADDY.COM, INC.
Status: redemptionPeriod
Updated Date: 20-nov-2008
Creation Date: 09-oct-2006
Expiration Date: 09-oct-2008

How long before it's finally dropped and can be picked up again? Where might you recommend I go to ensure I can snag it before someone else (it's not a really great domain so I don't expect much if any competition).

Expiration date means it's already passed through TDNam. Nobody is guaranteed to capture this domain. It could be any of the big drop-catchers. It will drop about 72-78 days after expiry (I forget the exact time). at that point any drop-catcher might grab it. The only chance Godaddy has is if nobody else backorders it at the other drop-catchers. If you really must have this domain you need to backorder it at SnapNames/NameJet/Pool (all three). If you want to run the risk of it dropping without being captured, just check the whois every day until it drops, and register it wherever you want.

Ok, well it's a person's name. (not mine obviously as if you checked you see it was taken) so I highly doubt it would be picked up by a drop catcher right?

It's no one famous (unless my cousin is and I didn't know about it lol).

So I suppose I could just keep waiting right? I'm ready at about day 64 so I should I just keep waiting?

I would backorder the name with multiple catchers to make sure you get the name. Assuming you do not want to risk someone else getting it.

The domain should drop on or around 12/24. Backorder with GD if it's an uncommon name (and not the name of somebody famous); otherwise backorder with SN, NJ, and Pool.

Yep. Keep watching. If you don't want to lose it. Backorder at SnapNames/NameJet/Pool. In any case you might check those sites to make sure nobody else has backordered it. If they have then you need to backorder at all 3. If you don't want to pay their min fees and you don't think they'll go after the name, then you can just wait it out. GoDaddy are unlikely to have backordered it.
