This thread is more to encourage people to take and keep active logs of their career in domaining,

But I am curious, how much have you spent and how much has been returned to you in domaining?

Profit or not, just how much youve spent and how much you've gotten back.

I've spent $334 total so far only on domain names, and received $0 from domain sales, $20 from advertisements, and $0 from parking.

I've spent (over the last 12+ years) about $50,000.00 over the past 12 years. I have made about $100,000.00+ on domain name sales (unsolicited/unmarketed/unadvertised). So, I have basically doubled my profits over 12 years. I have made an average of $5000.00/year over the last decade or so with my domain name "biz", which I have not treated like a business. I have over the past 20 years - run over 8 businesses - offline - many of which have returned millions of dollars in profit. Which is why I have waited for the domain name "market" to become susceptible to "REALITY". In 2009, it has finally been turning a new leaf, as I see it. But it has a little bit to go yet. Therefore, I do hold on to my couple thousand names & am actively marketing/developing them now in hopes of future sale/ROI.
I will absolutely make out better than those who have exclusively invested in the stock market!!!!! Know when to hold 'em; know when to fold 'em.! LOL. Best of luck to y'all!

Nice comment here, I have spent about $2000 on domains sold a few for profit of about $1.5k and kept the rest to build up sometime in the future.

In the last few years I have spent approximately $350.00.

This is broken down into 14 dot com domains and 21 dot tel domains.

I have not sold any so I have not made anything on these domains. I also have not made anything by having the dot com's parked at Sedo.

I have tried selling on Sedo, NP, Bido and Dnko, all with no luck.

I have seen what other domains have sold for and I can't understand why some of my domains have not sold, considering that they are no better or worse than some of the names that have been sold. At least IMO.

I guess I need to spend more money in advertising if I want to sell anything.

Anyhow, I'm not buying anymore domains until I sell at least one that I currently own.

Might be awhile...................

It took me a very long time to make a decent profit by selling domains, I struggled for the first two years to double what i invested overall. However, since the last two years i have considerably improved my ROI.

My advice for Newbies is be patient

During my peak (Sep. '08 - Jan '09), I transformed $22.5K into about $45K across 100 enduser sales. From Mar. '09 - Apr. '09 I inked 40 enduser sales for a combined $15K on behalf of other domainers. Now I'm on the verge of opening up my enduser sales platform to the domaining community and departing for a more socially-oriented venture. So pumped!
