This may sound strange, especially coming from someone who has followed .TV for over 6 years, but it finally hit me last night: Internet TV is upon our doorsteps!
Sheesh. Not exactly an epiphany, but something finally sunk in. Available, interesting content to fill out TV sites is what has been holding us back (duh??). It's why I haven't really been motivated to develop. Then along comes along the "new" Video link on Google. A site I frequent every 4.5 minutes while I'm on the 'net. I've been to the beta Google Video page before, but "something" about the "new" part on the homepage caught my attention (and thus a lightening bolt hit me).
To make a long story short, I entered "choppers" in the search link to see if there were any "interesting" content videos on choppers. I found one. Then it hit me. Google is going to be flooded with MANY chopper content videos in time. Who is to say I couldn't embed these videos into my www.Chopper.TV site ? Why couldn't I do this for Meth.TV, WomensFitness.TV, and the ultimate Teen channel... Glue.TV.
It was like I was in a dry desert for many years, and finally figured out how I could extract water from Cactus. Upon doing some Google searches I find that there are a few "early adopter" blog sites link to "sexy" videos, etc. Content sites that would get repeat visitors.
I don't know about you guys and gals, but we could all become Network TV owners in a very short time. What is really cool is I don't have to host these videos, which will really cut costs. That probably will change over time... It always does (i.e.. Pay per link fees for website owners).
There is some serious money to be made here. When you don't have to produce the content, which will get better in time... nor do you have to host the videos (thanks Google..thanks YouTube). It really puts things into perspective.
I know what you're thinking. Slap some videos up and some google ADsense ads along the sides to create revenue. The ulimate hands-off, money making site... right?? Not really. What if you actually offered something to sell? Something you create that goes with the content on the site? Can you say 95% of the cut as opposed to 6% or even 5% with just Ads...
Bottomline: Google with it's popularity will get people watching videos online. I noticed there were a lot of .TV web addresses that came up in the searches. Overtime, people will link TV content with .TV sites, just as they did with .com and Ecommerce in the late 90's when people began to "search" in the search engines.
