This may sound strange, especially coming from someone who has followed .TV for over 6 years, but it finally hit me last night: Internet TV is upon our doorsteps!

Sheesh. Not exactly an epiphany, but something finally sunk in. Available, interesting content to fill out TV sites is what has been holding us back (duh??). It's why I haven't really been motivated to develop. Then along comes along the "new" Video link on Google. A site I frequent every 4.5 minutes while I'm on the 'net. I've been to the beta Google Video page before, but "something" about the "new" part on the homepage caught my attention (and thus a lightening bolt hit me).

To make a long story short, I entered "choppers" in the search link to see if there were any "interesting" content videos on choppers. I found one. Then it hit me. Google is going to be flooded with MANY chopper content videos in time. Who is to say I couldn't embed these videos into my www.Chopper.TV site ? Why couldn't I do this for Meth.TV, WomensFitness.TV, and the ultimate Teen channel... Glue.TV.

It was like I was in a dry desert for many years, and finally figured out how I could extract water from Cactus. Upon doing some Google searches I find that there are a few "early adopter" blog sites link to "sexy" videos, etc. Content sites that would get repeat visitors.

I don't know about you guys and gals, but we could all become Network TV owners in a very short time. What is really cool is I don't have to host these videos, which will really cut costs. That probably will change over time... It always does (i.e.. Pay per link fees for website owners).

There is some serious money to be made here. When you don't have to produce the content, which will get better in time... nor do you have to host the videos (thanks Google..thanks YouTube). It really puts things into perspective.

I know what you're thinking. Slap some videos up and some google ADsense ads along the sides to create revenue. The ulimate hands-off, money making site... right?? Not really. What if you actually offered something to sell? Something you create that goes with the content on the site? Can you say 95% of the cut as opposed to 6% or even 5% with just Ads...

Bottomline: Google with it's popularity will get people watching videos online. I noticed there were a lot of .TV web addresses that came up in the searches. Overtime, people will link TV content with .TV sites, just as they did with .com and Ecommerce in the late 90's when people began to "search" in the search engines.

The problem I see is that many places, youtube, google and others that host videos contain material that was not the uploaders to begin with. So unless you have your own original content or licensed content you have to beware, imo.

Where you are going to see an abundance of legal, royalty free content delivered to you for free will be through affiliate managers, developing streaming content for their products.....be it resort travel destinations, or simply weekly demos of knives, ie the infomercials.

Think about it, if you have a LasVegas.tv type domain, you will be able to get teasers about the current shows through ticket sellers or hotel reservation programs, or simply through promoters for the shows themselves....dishes.tv could get videos of china dish sets with audible pitches regarding the quality of the pieces...apparel.tv will get streaming videos of models demonstrating the clothes they are selling.... media related topics will be the most valuable .tv properties, for sure - but make no mistake, there will be videos available for just about every product related keyword imaginable, within the next couple of years. So maybe there's a place for 'product'.tv, even though it is not particularly valuable atm.......just a guess.

I have believed from more or less the first day I started being serious about .tv that this was this was the place for the small business person (e.g. not viacom) to play. media.tv type names need expensive proprietary content. product ones will ultimately have others subsidizing the content...

I guess I planned on people doing the work for me. Shooting videos; uploading them to Google or YouTube, then sending me the link. [They] get the benefit of being seen on a generic TV site; hell they can even have their website address in the lower right corner of the video if they want. For my part, I get most of the benefits. I can sell stuff, direct traffic to my other "content related" sites. I don't see a down side here.

I get fresh content sent to me daily, and I don't have to do very much to get it. Mind you if I owned a "threewordchopper.tv" type name, the ability to get people to send you videos go down. Since I basically got on the ground floor of .TV, I won't have that problem. The KEY is owning generic TV (media/sports/news/educational) type names...and if you can get them for reg fee...all the better!

As far as other places to get or use free video, the sky is the limit. Rogue.. I think you are on to something.

More importantly izopod, in the video on your chopper.tv site, are you the young lady in the white shorts? :hehe:

Seriously, imagine a world of unlimited "tv channels" where every domain can be a different station. Welcome to the real Internet 2.0.

"The fact is that YouTube is hot, video is hot, and there's a lot of money projected to be shifted from video advertising on TV to video advertising on the Web,"
Great thread and energy. It's kinda funny the way so many have put down .TV over the years, yet everyday we see video becoming a critical part of the internet experience. Too early to tell them "I told you so", but the naysayers know it's coming. I've been over to Google video and it's good entertainment. Everyone keep an eye on .TV and online video. This is a development with great momentum behind it.

P.S. izo-pod: Really like the way you think out-of-the-box, creative ideas, forward vision.

how is the quality of the video? Are there any contents that are in high definition?

I am looking for any sites that I can download high definition contents and then play it later. (high definition usually needs too much bandwidth)

Appreciate the comments Carlton. In truth, I should have implemented my ideas a long time ago. I'm one of those who can dream up some truly revoluntionary ideas but can't seem to "find" a way to get them off the ground. I'm hoping that one day I realize I'm not going to live forever. The time to go after your dreams is now.
