How far is too far with big brother?

Recently in a city nearby they have installed sidewalk cameras (loads of them.. around 60 I think) to try and cut down on crime. But how far is too far? They said all data recorded will be saved and archived. I think the idea is just ridiculous.
On the other hand every intersection in my city has traffic cameras.. ugh.

you cant step in a store without being cammed, so might as well be on the streets too

I went to London a few years ago and it was just like that. There was a CCTV every square yard. Privacy groups have been fighting against that sort of surviellance and locally they've gotten traffic cameras removed.

These type of cctvs has been installed in my city also.
In one way they are good to stop crime.

they do help out in crimes...if not stopping them, at least they get to see the criminals faces and the acts committed

The country is a lost cause tbh, cameras everywhere, phone calls/emails monitored etc etc etc
