How do you organize your domain names?

If you buy domain names at Snapnames or other auction services, or even from many different private sellers, then you've probably got accounts at many different registrars.

For those of you with hundreds or thousands of domain names scattered across a few dozen registrars, how do you keep track of them all? Isn't it incredibly time consuming to keep track of your login info at all the different registrars in order to change nameservers, park the domains, manage renewals or forwarding, etc? Furthermore many of these registrars are expensive, so no doubt you consolidate some of your domains at cheaper services, right?

What tools or methods do you use to keep track of all this?

Personally I just use an Excel spreadsheet, but I find that I spend a few hours every day just working on everything I mentioned above. There's got to be a more efficient method!

I use Excel as well.

I have about 2,500 domains and use Excel. I am quite happy with this method at the moment and find it fairly easy to manage.

Good question.

Just mentioned it to a friend this evening this problem, for I know before too long I could potentially have a great many names, and will need some way of organising them all into a cohesive order.

Too, I'm looking for a tool where I can 'store' all my search terms into an alphabetical and searchable database for easy and very fast access.

If anyone knows of any method, I would be interested in hearing about it.

I have my own system with a DB. I keep track of creation date, expiry date and registrar. I don't encode all the details. If I need the login I will just look up in my confirmation E-mails (easy to filter subject of E-mails).
BTW I now add domains to Sedo via my backend... they have an API that comes in handy :)

Hmmm.... seems like there ought to be a desktop software package to do this. I smell an opportunity for someone.

What do you think of Rebel.com? It seems like they have some fantastic domain management features.

i'm slowly getting all mine to moniker, bulk off and keeping some at godaddy

domainers could help & stop using shitty reseller obscure accounts

if a domain is nice but not amazing and is at some obscure registrar i will pass on it.

just reg names at the big 4, say enom, godaddy, moniker, maybe even dynadot tbh as they are really good imo

we could make our lives so much easier

you need to have a number of accounts to facilitate pushes and transfer across, but it does get silly

i dont use excel, hate the bloody thing

monikers inhouse management is great and is all i need

it does get tricky remebering all expiring names though everywhere and for that reason am consolidating most

it is best way imo

Moniker are the only guys i fully trust too

i use excel...
i do the same thing arnie does... i try to keep most of my names in just 2 registrars, moniker and godaddy, so besides excel, it is easier to manage all of them.

i use excel backedup either in metapad or thegun just in case excel hangs itself and it can't read .xls for some unknown reason.

I also register new domains only at Moniker, but I buy a lot of domains at Snapnames and you don't get a choice with them... a lot of the domains are at obscure registrars and quite difficult to manage. Eventually I do get around to transferring them to Moniker.

I was searching just now and came across these software packages offered by DomainPunch.com.

And someone else mentioned DomainerBox.net.

I use Excell and it works fine for me. I do only use one registrar though so I don't have much of a problem with that.

Any other programs like Domainersbox.net out there?

I haven't tried it yet, but just want to get a feel of what else is out there.

http://www.domainsellerpro.com looks like it might be a contender.

I have no connection to this product and have not tried it.

used to have excel. but now with less than 10 domains, I can easily manage them.

Less than 10? I hope they're superstars!

I did a little more searching last night and came across this:

http://www.dnzoom.com/

Apparently they're still in beta. I applied for a beta tester account. There's no indication of pricing but it sounds like a very promising solution.

P.S. I have no connection with any of these software packages or services.

Excel.
Multi-tabs for the various extensions or categories; i.e. .com on one sheet. .net on a second sheet, etc... Also keep a sheet with registrar/account name/password and same for parking accounts including the name servers. I also list the various registrars that I have 5 or less names with and expiry so I can consolidate when up for renewal.

Track domain name / creation date / expity date / Total $ Invested / Registrar / Name servers. I highlight them a different color for each parking; purple for Fabulous, tan for Domainsponsor, green for Parked, etc...

Sort by expiry keeps all the upcoming names at the top of the list. Would be great for an automated software, but have yet to find one that does everything. Last issue of Modern Domainer mag has an article about this as well...

I write down all my domains at registrars other than Godaddy (2200 names there) in a domaining binder. When the names become eligible for transfer or need renewal, I send them over there. Works for me, but I never have more than 50 or so names outside of Godaddy, so it's pretty easy to manage without specialized software :) I tried different stuff over the years but my poor memory and uselessness with Excel keep me running back to pen and paper.
