Hi Guys,

So as far as traffic and SEO goes, it remains a mystery to me presently. I want to learn more about it and I will when I have the time to put in.

However... an interesting turn of events has resulted in me receiving a load of unique visitors daily for the last month.

I bought a domain when I was drunk around the 5/6 of january 2014 called;

WhatUp.co.uk

Deemed it valueless until now.

My Questions are;

  1. Why am I receiving this traffic?
  2. What is with the visitors geo against the cctld?
  3. How can I convert this interest into cold hard cash?

I think that's pretty much it... hopefully I can get this figured out. Picture attached.

@wakeh Selling the domain would be a great start, but if want to earn from parking you should try another parking provider.

Try Parkingcrew or Voodoo

Well I am happy to sell the domain to anyone who wants it, obviously it gets a lot of views.

I was thinking perhaps SEDO isn't the best for parking.

Any other suggestions?

It seems being drunk made you lucky :) Definitely not a domain I would brag about. Its the question whether this typo could pay even for itself.

1. its not sector specific.
2. very low CPC
3. parked with Sedo it looks resignated.

Try some other parking provider and when it makes more than 7 bucks per year, keep it.

It's not a typo; it's a common phrase. It's a "cool" version of "What's up," and it happens to be popular in random parts of the world--apparently, that includes Africa.

While ~120 uniques per month is certainly something to brag about for doing nothing, I'm not sure that it's enough to make any real money. But traffic leads to more traffic, if you develop a minimal site. Throw a proxy on there or something.

You being so wise about, could you explain why the traffic on co.uk domain comes from Africa? If you think 120 uniques per month and a low 0.XX USD revenue per month is something to brag about, go ahead, all forum is waiting for your bragging I guess....There are many users who have double the traffic on a single domain per day...So stop being naive please.

Probably because -

(British people, found heavily in Africa, seem to be familiar with .co.uk extensions for some reason)

Even Rick, Frank and a few others will tell you if you have only 1 hit a day, that's traffic, and someone is looking for something on that domain. An average of 4 hits a day on very nice, freshly hand regged domain in 'any' extension is something to brag about! The only one being naive, is those who think otherwise!

Maybe you should share some of your regging skills and show us how you can 'reg a new name' and have instant traffic of 4 plus hits a day. There's many a naive domainer, new and old that would love to hear how to do that too.

@OP - Nice pick up.

Thanks for that insight, now it looks more "natural" to me. You are right if somebody is new to domaining the people shouldnt be to harsh. But I was somehow lucky in my life and first domain I register did about 7 Bucks per day. For a newby thats ok I guess. I just wonder if it goes over the registration. Otherwise as I see it its hard to sell. Concerning the domains I was lucky to get some good Typos 2 years ago. The majority of new people just think any typo would do it. But there is a trick Typo shouldnt look as a typo. So when you are buying typos, make sure that it looks ok. Concerning Type ins all are taken, so you have to invest XXX-XXXX to get some good ones with traffic. And than there are expired domains. A brave new world.
But as I see it having Aspergers syndrome and very High IQ gives you benefit in that kind of obsession as domaining is...But there is a slight drawback when it comes to expressing in Forums...

Well the domain cost me ยฃ2.99 which on google converter is about $4.95.

But to be the newb here... isn't $5/6/7 a year very little? Or is it a case of building up several hundred of these types of domains to make a fair amount from it?

####edit####

Another question, what is the difference between these parking companies? I use sedo currently, is that not a very good place for conversions?

Thanks

Yes its a little for a single domain. Usually domainers have hundreds, even thousands of such. BUT there are 2 types of domainers, some have thousands of those kind and the others have just XX or XXX better ones and do the same amount per month. Sedo is not among the best parking companies. Try Parkingcrew.com, I just have no idea if they accept 1 domain.
