New Cover Story at DNJournal.com: Most of you know about the big splash that the .CO extension made after the Colombian ccTLD was re-launched and made available for worldwide registration last July. But you haven't heard the story of the man behind .CO's rebirth, 32-year-old Juan Diego Calle, the CEO of the .CO Registry.

Calle was born into a highly entrepreneurial family in Bogota, Colombia where his father founded one of the country's biggest wine and beer distribution companies. Unfortunately, by the time Juan was 15 years old, the security situation in Colombia had deteriorated to such an extent that his parents feared for the safety of their three children. They decided to send Juan, his brother and his sister to the United States while they stayed behind to keep the family business going. This is the remarkable entrepreneurial success story of how things have gone for Juan Calle since then:

THey were working using .me marketing people and technique regarding no restrictions and marketing massively over registrars to domainers or owner of domain names.

But I am not sure if they can continue the momentum. Strategy is brilliant.

Calle really persisted and what a nice job he did.

I think only time will tell if this remains a successful strategy. I'm beginning to see cracks in the wall already where domainers are willing to sell out below their cost. I presume they do so because there ain't no traffic.

I think people who were buying .co for immediate traffic will be disappointed, in most cases. If they sold out so quickly, they were looking to make a super fast buck and had no resolve. Their loss, I'm afraid.

Great story about Juan Calle. People can sit and criticize from the sidelines, but it takes a lot of preserverance to go through what he has.

Global brand? How so? if nobody is using it, please don't post one or 2 examples .
If the "O" decides to rebrand itself I will consider that a major marketing mistake rival only to the "New Coke" fiasco.
remember del.i.cio.us?
Tulips..anyone?
At the end of the day "shovels and picks" the only ones making the money will be the promoters and a handful of speculators (early comers)...run Forrest run

Yes, the "splash" generated by dnjournal, the .CO registry, and the domain auction carnival barkers. "Step right up ladies and gentlemen ..."

Yes, that's the "splash" we "know about."
