Looking at/imagining the prices that one word .COM domain names would be going at, I can't even imagine a new user ending up owning a one-word .COM.
I mean, if one planned to buy such a name, there are multiple issues:

  1. Individuals would be competing against companies
  2. Companies have millions of dollars vs individuals who may have a smaller sum
  3. Individuals are looking for reseller pricing while companies may purchase for end-user prices
  4. Sellers are pricing at end-user prices
In such a case, owning a one word .COM becomes almost impossible for an individual even if they have a 3-year time frame in mind and starting off with say $2,000 in domaining.
What would you suggest their strategy should be?

Same strategy as if they wanted to live in downtown Manhattan. If you want to live there and can’t afford the super high rents, either find a way to come up with the money or move to somewhere you can afford to!

(Geez you ask the weirdest things)

Answer get creative or find less common single words. We own several English single word .coms they just aren’t super mainstream. You have to start somewhere.
