Looking at/imagining the prices that one word .COM domain names would be going at, I can't even imagine a new user ending up owning a one-word .COM.
I mean, if one planned to buy such a name, there are multiple issues:

- Companies have millions of dollars vs individuals who may have a smaller sum
- Individuals are looking for reseller pricing while companies may purchase for end-user prices
- Sellers are pricing at end-user prices
